The Unsent Letter
Written multiple times by Celina Zabinski
This ties back to 'A Surprise Marriage' story here
Celina is in her accommodation for the evening. She’s sitting by a writing desk and there’s lot of paper thrown around the desk and the room. Pages scattered and pieces of paper crumpled up and some torn apart. It would appear there’s been multiple attempts at writing a letter. However Celina isn’t happy with any of them. She reaches for a new sheet of paper. She thinks for a moment this time and decides for this attempt, it might be better to write based on something she’s done recently. She thinks about her latest adventure and begins to write.
Celina gazes at her words written down. Especially the last few lines. She stares at her letter for a long time. She keeps going over in her head how she can apologies to him. How to write it. Can she even write it? She has been trying for weeks to get the halfling out of her head but nothing has been working. She feels the urge to go talk to him. Would he even listen to her after their last encounter? She reads over the letter she just wrote and finally sighs in frustration. She eventually picks up the letter, crumples it in her hand and tosses it aside along with the rest. She grabs a bag, picks up her things and heads to the nearest tavern for a drink.

Dear Sammy,
It’s been weeks since...
I’m sorry…. for how I left everything. I was cruel...
I… I can explain…I want to explain
How are you? I guess it’s been a while.
You want to know more about my life? Then fine, let me tell you about an adventure today. I went to a library today. Me, in a library. Ha, can you imagine? The books got me thinking about writing letter and I thought of you. I arrived at a location of a job posting, which mentioned to be there at 9am. Super early. Once I got there I met Kavel. He’s a rather tall Goliath I hadn’t met before. My gosh, he is very active. Loves to exercise. He was doing burpees or something physical when I arrived. Tried to get me involved. I politely declined. Kelne quickly arrived after and started joining in doing some of Kavel’s exercises. I love that Halfling. She’s always up for things. Faust arrived some after. That old man… I feel you’d like him. Another tiefling like me. Then out of nowhere Sorrel arrived. She arrived out of the blue as per usual. That human is sneaky. She greeted Kavel like good friends. They’ve clearly met before.
Anyway after a few moments, another human woman appears. Really short and is pushing a cart. She goes by Miss Smith. She’s the one who put up the ad for help. She seems to be excited about books and Faust seems to match her energy about them. She starts talking about a runaway library, it’s something from Candlekeep, no one can get in without a rare book or something, constantly moving, can’t track it’s location. Hard to predict where it’ll be next. I immediately suggest to Faust what if it was something to do with Librarion…. He seemed to be equally concerned but mentioned we’d know if the fish people are around. (Spoiler there was nothing to do with Librarion). Miss Smith asks us for our help to find a way in and gather information on what we can find out about the place. Simple! Investigating a place out is my thing. She hands us a book to use to get in. We’re all set.
We arrive to the place and there’s bright yellow sandstone with tons of mosaic shapes in a huge arch. It’s so big almost like it could fit a dragon. Could you imagine? In the archway there’s two tarrasques which appear to be holding up the arch. We arrive and try and figure out a way in. There’s no clear doorway. It seems confusing. However smart Kelne decides to try talking to the door and it responds to her. It tells us 'Write and you shall be heard, Read and you shall hear, Speak and you shall be read'. A riddle, I am no good with riddles. This is not my area of expertise let me tell you. I wait to see what the smart people on the team do. Kavel seems to also be equally confused and begins doing squats. Eventually Faust takes out some ink and a quill and begins to write on some wood. That seems to do something and boom a door opens for us. Who would have thought it would be that simple.
We walk in, well we let Kavel go first in case there’s any danger. He’s tall and strong. He’d be fine if something attacked him. We all walk in and see it’s a narrow path way. People start reading and messing around with books. I wasn’t paying attention but suddenly we’re surrounded by the most beautiful glowing floating jellyfish. I am so mesmerized, the colours it’s all so…pretty.I should show you sometime. Suddenly a mimic appears. It is massive. Says “Chonk” to everyone in the room. Everyone says “Chonk” back to it and then Sorrel introduces herself. It’s then we find out Chonk is its name. We all feel quite dumb for not working that out. He makes us all tea and tells us he lives there. He is surprised and happy we found the place. Mentions they don’t get a lot of visitors. Shows us a map to the library. The place is freaking massive. There’s a pool area, greenhouse, armoury, a game room and many more areas listed. Do libraries usually have all these things? If so I need to visit them more. He tells us the rules of the place. No stealing, don’t annoy the flumps - the jellyfish things, don’t feed the oozes and we all need to leave when there’s 3 bells struck. I sigh and decide I will think about the not stealing thing. He’s nearly made it a challenge for me to steal something. If I did... it would be his fault. Then he asks us where we want to go. We end up deciding on going to the armoury.
As we head there we’re told something happens in each room. So we need to prepare to fight in the armoury. There’s some suits which come to life and they like to fight people in there. I was curious about this, as was everyone else in our group. We get to the room and everyone splits off to different areas in the room, looking around and glancing at things. I beeline straight to the rapier looking weapons. I mean they’re my speciality after all. There’s four suits of armour in the room and the suits did in fact come to life, learned that they did when they started to attack all of us. Copper, Metal, Iron and Steel they were called. We manged to fight them all quickly. Sorrel got hit a few times at one stage. Steel was a tough one to take down. Kelne turned into killer whale at one point. She filled up so much of the room. It was amazing. However Steel was still quite tough. Faust manged to use a spell to shrink Steel into a silk worm. I decided to pick it up with my mage hand and I asked if any objected if I placed it on top of the high shelf so it couldn’t attack and we could leave. No one objected and I placed it up high. See I can do nice things when I want too.I think your influence is making me think of being nicer to people. We are all about to leave when out of the blue, all the pieces of armour coming flying back into a place. It actually looks like the armour is… laughing at us or with us? It’s weird. However this time when looking at the suits there’s a new weapon lying in Steels hands. It’s a Cakan. It looks like Steel is offering it to our group. Kavel asks if anyone wants it. The weapon looks massive, definitely not something I could use and apparently not to anyone else in the room either. Kavel looks pleased and takes it after no one objects. Chonk comes back and asks how we got on and sees the weapon. He congratulates us on the win.
I ask Chonk why no one else comes here. He thinks it’s because no one can read in the area and also because no one asks to get it. They try alternative means first. Smashing and throwing things and he finds it a shame. Suddenly we hear the bells and start making our way to the door. I ask for a map to the place. I think it would be good to show Miss Smith proof of the things in the library. We say our goodbyes to Chonk and head out. We eventually find Miss Smith and tell her all. We show her the map and she is over the moon. I tell her the only thing she needs to do to get in is to ask. She seems so surprised by this but thanks us and says she’ll try it again. She pays us the gold promised and we all head off on our happy ways.
I usually go out for a drink after my adventures. This time I didn't. Exciting stuff that happened today, right? I didn't steal anything. That's new for me. Maybe I'm changing or growing?
Hey maybe we should meet up and talk? I think about you...
I miss you…
Yours truly,
Sincerly,
Regards,
Celina
