Today has been a weird day - Stedd decided.
In front of him stood Taz, doubled over as swarms of spiders crawled up his legs and into his mouth.
To his left, there stood two giant frogs. The tongue from the first wrapped around Taz like a Boa Constrictor, the tongue from the second diving deep into Taz’s mouth.
Above him, flew a blazing red Tiefling and a fearsome looking Aarakocra.
They were aboard the Elven’s Grace (a vessel which had seen better days and by all rights should not still be sailing), and Stedd had chosen the wrong time to enlarge himself. As the decking had made way, Stedd became caught between two floors, and was instantly set upon by enemies (one of which Stedd fell upon, pulverising instantly with his now enlarged ass).
As Wil and Pieni cleared the upper deck of foes, Stedd was most grateful for BB and Markus’s efforts on the middle deck, quickly dispatching the giant spiders that were down there (and protecting Stedd’s delicates).
This left ample time for the party to watch as Taz made out with a giant frog (and a few dozen spiders).
- Stedd had seen many things since washing ashore at Port Ffirst, but he made a mental note to mark this down as the most bizarre.
As the party ventured into the lower deck, they encountered what can only be described as a monster, clearly created from the body parts of various ‘donors’ - yet somehow familiar to Stedd.
Lief Grinthorn?? - Stedd said aloud, eliciting a response (but no words) from the beast.
It appears his previous employer / friend / enemy / person-presumed-dead-because-Sheryl-chopped-his-arm-off, was being kept alive through the magic of Lady Khaosborn (or as Arkadius put it: “ that B**** ”).
This would not be the case for long.
As Stedd watched his party deal devastating damage to Lief (including his first experience of the slow spell, which he found super cool), he calmly walked over and whispered in his ear
“I killed your husband”. - Quickly followed by the killing blow.
As Stedd went to pick up Lief’s adamantine Axe, two orbs burst forth from the remains of Lief-enstein.
Struggling to carry all 3 items at once, Stedd dropped the redish orb, which fell to the feet of Markas Virnala.
BB used her magical experience to identify the items as Ioun Stones.
BB revealed that Stedd’s stone would ensure the user never required sustenance from food or drink.
Markas’s stone, she revealed, granted Strength.
As Stedd’s bottom lip began to quiver at this discovery (would he ever get stronger than Baine?), Markas walked over and put a hand on his shoulder.
Without saying anything, he swapped the stones around, and patted Stedd on the back.
Grateful beyond imagining, Stedd then tossed Taz the adamantine axe.
- It had been Taz, at the end of the day, who had truly taken one for the team.
“And by the way: here’s the ledger” BB said, pulling a large folder from a desk: the whole reason they were aboard the ship.
- Stedd was grateful for this, as he had forgotten his mission at the first sight of something shiny.
To the sorrow of Wil and Stedd, the vessel could not be salvaged.
"That's okay"
Stedd told himself, looking at his greatsword
"I have another ship in mind".
Stedd decided he would double his efforts in tracking down the Githyanki Astral Skiff (and of course, the hostages held within)...
