Hello Everyone,
During my latest adventure, our party managed to kill a young dragon. It wasn't very big but I skinned it anyway and now I have this beautiful white dragon hide.
I'm looking to have this made into leather armour for myself. By my calculations there should be enough leather to fashion armour for someone of my gnomish posture.
If you possess the skills for this, let me know your price.

"Hi, I'm Lara Layland, the local leatherworker. That is some incredible material ya got there. I's never worked in dragonhide before, but I'm knowing the ways of it. It takes very specific compounds for the curing and the treating of it. I'll need ta send an order back through the portal for'em, and takes some time to do.
From the stories I's heard, white dragon hide will keep the cold off you almost supernat'rally well - even magical cold you'll be resistant to. It'll cost ya 125gp, as it's going to take tons of work and special treatments, and I reckon I'll need the blacksmith to get involved as it's so tough, and we'll be making something closer to that kind of armour. We'll get it dun as fast as we can, but it's tricky work, so it'll be a few weeks.
What kind of armour would ya like? I can do something light like leather armour or something much more robust and heavy more akin to... I guess like scale mail at no extra cost. It'd be heavier and harder to dance in, but if it keeps ya head on, right? Whaddaya say?"
(So you can choose the armour type, but can be up to Scale Mail. If you accept, I'll let you roll the dice to see how long it takes, which I'll explain)

Yeah let's go for some medium armour! Made out of white dragon hide, that will look fashionable, right?
(So, looking at the rules, this means for scale mail my AC will be 14 + DEX (2) + 2 for a shield, so 18? but disadvantage at stealth? Alternatively, is there a way to make this into a chain shirt which will bump it up to 17 and no disadvantage? I know dragon hide isn't metal but the same idea? A scale shirt? cfr. "This armor offers modest protection to the wearer's upper body and allows the sound of the rings rubbing against one another to be muffled by outer layers.")

Sure - it won't be chain in any way other than statistically. They'll just sacrifice some durability to make it lighter in some of the more reinforced areas.

No you can do it now. Find yourself some dice or a dice roller app and start making rolls with Advantage on behalf of the crafters. Given their bonus to crafting, its DC 10, basically.
Make rolls with Advantage until you get 10 successes. Tell me how many times you had to roll in total. That's how long it takes in days.

Val walks through Daring Heights, his backpack bulging with the weight of his morning start. His battered leather armour in his left hand, "You there," He calls as a man passes him, "I'm looking for Lara Layland." Following Val's trip to the mountain he'd decided to spend his reward to make sure he'd come back next time. Some new armour and equipment was the order of this day...

Val will be readily pointed to a shopfront down the road where a woman stands behind a counter stretching some leather over a large frame.
She takes one look at the battered armour in your hand and barks a laugh. "Looking for somethin a mite tougher are we? Well I can do ya sturdier, but still light armour. If it's heavier protection yous be wanting, you'll need the blacksmith up t'road."

Val looks at the battered leather and recalls his past outing up the mountains, "Yes a mite tougher might be sensible."
Heading to the Blacksmith, Val enters. Placing his leather armour and a morning star on the in front of him, "I'm after something I can move in that will protect me. You got a chain shirt, or a cheap Brestplate for sale. I've got these to trade...and can always lend assistance in any tasks for a better price."

How do you fare with bracers Lara? I'm not one for wearing armor but my hands are my livelihood and I'd feel safer with them protected?

Val - "Well the only cheap armour I've got are the broken ones out back, but I don't think you want one of them. I've got a chain shirt that ought to fit you, and for those leathers and morning star, you can have it for 43gp."
Moth - "Bracers? What're ya lookin for? A leather bracer I can do, but it won't be much more than decorative. If it's magic stuff you're after, I don't have the tools for it. You need coin and an enchanter on hire to do that kind of work and I'm too small a place at the moment for that." (Are you looking for a bracer which counts as a shield like Wonder Woman, in which case that's fine for flavour but you won't be able to use two handed weapons and gain their benefit, or are you looking for a magic item?)

It is indeed more protection I am after. I'm only good to the brave souls around me if I'm still standing with my glaive raised.
If magic is what it takes to protect my precious digits, then I will save my gold (avoid the attention of the Daring guard) and seek a skilled enchanter.
Cheers Lara.
