Camwyna hadn’t really wanted to become a weaver. Oh, she enjoyed the craft well enough, but she never would have worked so hard to learn the trade if not for her mother.
How her mother had scoffed at the idea of Cam adventuring.
“No, don’t be ridiculous. You’ll learn a nice, respectable trade and be glad of it!”
Cam tried to follow her mother’s instructions. She tried to build her skill and her business, but it grew difficult to bear having her ideas and designs stolen by her teachers and supposed betters. Her mother instructed her to have patience. Eventually, Camwyna managed to scrimp and save enough for a store of her own. If she wasn’t happy, at least she was no longer an apprentice following the whims of her teacher. However she found that running the store, selling odds and ends to travellers, only made her long more for the excitement she’d dreamed of as a child. The final straw was three weeks after she opened her store. A group of adventurers chased monsters out of the woods, or so they said. Apparently the adventurers were doing them a favour, but once it was over Camwyna’s shop lay in ruins. So did the homes of people she respected, people who might now die from the cold.
Most of her remaining stock was donated to become makeshift blankets. And once that was done, Camywyna declared her intent to become a better kind of adventurer, one who didn’t cause destruction for innocent people.
Her mother was scornful. “You don’t have the skill, Camwyna, you have no skills like that. Are you going to lock yourself away to study wizardry? Run away and join an army? You’re too soft for such things. Settle down and act your age!”
Camywyna had never argued so fiercely with her mother. When darkness fell and she stormed in fury out of the house, she went to the tavern. There she heard tell of a land called Kantas, full of adventure, and far enough away that her mother couldn’t control her.
It was true she had no skill in fighting or magic, but she knew one way that could change.
Perhaps making a deal with an Archfey and moving to a distant continent was an extreme way of rebelling against her mother’s wishes, but so far Camwyna was very satisfied with the results.
When she is seen around town, she proudly introduces herself to everyone she meets. Here, she has nothing to be ashamed of.
“Hi! I’m Camwyna Correlip Beren Loopmitten Nedross Puck Warren Zook, but you can call me Cam. It’s so nice to meet you, what are your names?”
She will act very surprised if you only share one.
