It's another sunny start to the day, though the temperature has dropped noticeably now. As the sun catches the Rhinestone cat face just the right way, it sends out a spray of lights and Oscar tries to chase them about the roof. Hearing the commotion behind him, Beranwald turns to his friend and lets out an exasperated sigh
...
"I am thankful for the pack Faye but surely I could've managed without the shiny stones all over it…"
A few moments later and the Fabric cover and Hood are back on his back-pack, concealing the shiny cat face. With the dancing lights gone, Oscar stops his scrambling and sits patiently waiting for them to come back to continue his chase.
"Come Oscar, they aren't coming back! Besides we are here to see how he does…. I see Juno is doing rather well now…"
"…aow"
"I know it goes against your judgement but you've seen it works... Anyway, Marco is still busy so this will test their patience."
The pair watch as, across the road, Euric and Juno are sitting patiently in the street near a small stall of fish, waiting for and watching the seller as he deals with a few of the locals.
"mraow"
"Ah yes, my trip. Turns out I wasn’t in Daring Heights for very long after all! I ran into the ladies Bubbles and Faye there and joined them on another little adventure to Kul-Goran with a few others. I believe we were to be emissaries on behalf on the council to improve relations, not like the normally dull affairs I had to attend in my youth however. You know the type."
"….."
"Ah.... no I suppose you don't. Sorry my friend, sometimes I do forget you and I have different backgrounds. No, normally these are tedious events among the pompous dullards trying to stroke each other's egos and form their fickle allegiances. Inane prattling and sandwiches…. No, this was different. For a start, they had picked a bunch of adventurer's to do it. Oh wait… is he…."
The seller finishes with the last customer as Euric has been slowly edging closer to him. As he turns, he feels a small paw rest on his leg and looks to see Euric looking up at him expectantly. Beranwald and Oscar watch as the moments tick by before seeing the man laugh and grab a small fish from the back of his stall. He shouts something in a jovial manner as Euric takes his prize and runs off, swiftly followed by Juno.
"I told you he would get it! You shouldn't doubt me my friend."
"meow"
"Well yes, Marco is a bit of a soft touch but it's all a learning curve. Come, we should be going. If he sees us sticking around here all the time he might start to become suspicious."
The pair climb back up the pitched roof and hop across to the next roof, beginning their trip back towards the Seashank
"Anyway, where was I… Ah yes. An interesting place Kul-Goran. As it turns out, we were basically loaned to show our 'expertise' and help out. When we arrived they were already dealing with some Giants who had kidnapped a family, holding them hostage in some cave. Dreadful affair, though the Smith with us, Milo, mentioned it to be somewhat unusual behaviour for giants? Can't say I've met many Giants in my time though they do seem particularly dim to formulate such a plan."
"…."
"Yes, anyway, the commander had us act as plan B, to sneak in and rescue the family from the back. A fine plan of course, shame it didn't quite go that way. We were spotted and one of the giants attempted to kill the family."
"mraow"
"Exactly. Needless to say we couldn't allow that. While the others distracted them I set the family free before joining the fray. We made short work of them for sure, though I dare say luck may have been on our side this time. A few well-placed blows from them could end the bravest of men."
"… rrrroaw"
"No, not myself. Though I was caught by those abominations on the way in… they seem to like dropping from the ceiling and latching onto their prey. Of course in my case it completely enveloped me… Damned tiny frame leaves me more vulnerable than I care to admit."
"mrrrrrrrrrrr"
"I'm sorry my friend, of course I mean no offence."
The pair continue in silence for a while
"……"
With a tired sigh - "It is difficult Oscar. It really is. I try to resist but sometimes that urge does return… when he threw that boulder at the helpless family…"
"meow"
"I know….. I know…"
The pair jump down from roof to fence, then down to the floor and out an alley onto the main street leading up to the Seashank. After passing a few more houses, they reach another alley and see Juno, happily eating the fish Euric had procured earlier, leaving him sitting off to one side nursing a bruised ego and a small scratch on his nose.
"Well…. That explains why Juno seems to be doing so well…."
