It was time for a change. I finally got rid the feather beard i’ve been unwontedly wearing for a few months now. Turns out wild lupine pollen was the trick all along. The many arachnids that have called this clearing home didn’t seem too pleased with the sudden explosion of blue feathers. Phalange thought they were rather entertaining.
Like the feather beard I feel I have been in this spot for too long and it’s time to go. I feel slightly watched here, I’m not sure what by, but if the sounds I hear during the night are anything to go by then it certainly can’t be friendly. At least I gave the edge of this bog some bright wildflowers, hopefully it will be a colourful discovery for someone in the future.
I am not wandering aimlessly (for a change), there seemed to be an opening for a florist of sorts in for a field in New Hillborrow. The flower field is massive and abandoned on the edge of town, and the locals seemed friendly enough. I think a man called Callen was the previous owner, the details are very confusing around his death. More importantly the townsfolk weren’t strangers to occasional strange magic outburstsso I’m less likely to be chased out this time.
So I’ve stored up my seeds, stowed some cuttings (thank goodness for those old potion bottles), packed up the new tent, hauled it all onto my back with Phalange contently perched on top and made the trek over. I will say the journey was much easier without that stupid beard dragging along the floor.
Everyone seemed enamoured by the beard, they might even be upset that i got rid of it now. But did they realise how impractical it was! Trying to prune the lower branches was almost impossible, I managed to hack whole sections of the thing off by accident! Nevermind the fact that I looked like a comical wizard character from some traveling theatre group that for some reason only had blue feathers for costumes!
...
Anyway, I made the trek safely and as I approached Pervinca emerged from the inn. She seemed surprised at my sudden appearance change and that I had actually kept my word. I’m more surprised that no-one approached about the field sooner. Waking up everyday surrounded by a full spectrum of colourful flowers sounds like a dream. I need to make more of an effort to enlighten people on the joys of flowers (i’m thinking more forceful bouquet giving? I’ve been too passive up to this point).
Pervinca pointed me in the direction of a chap named Bruno who brought me to the elders of the town about the field, they seemed to agree that my interest in looking after the flowers there seemed genuine. I even got the sagely head nod of approval! Turns out there was someone else interested in the actual business side of things, Ranulf Bramblethorn, knows a lot about numbers and selling flowers but not as much about actually growing them. He gave one quick look at the cuttings sticking out my pockets and wholeheartedly shook my hand for a partnership, giving me that impressive and genuine grin that halflings seem to pull off so easily. Before I could even return my own massive grin I’m being dragged off to the inn by my brand new business partner for a celebratory drink (or two) and a lively dance.
So here I am camped at the edge of said field with the setting sun on my face, surrounded by flowers, and quite frankly I couldn’t be happier.
Much Love,
BB
-Plant herb sprouts in burnt flower patch, mint, rosemary, thyme, sage (lavender might be a nice new addition)
-Remove burnt debris from ground surrounding the hut (seriously, what did they do to the place? It was only secured with a simple wooden door)
-Find someone to help repair said hut (it’s still useable for now so no rush)
-Convince Ranulf to name the business B.B.B.B.B. (Big Blue and Bramblethorn’s Bright Bouquets)
-Gift flowers to Pervinca and elders for their kindness, Chipper also needs some pick me up flowers (extra bright)
-Tell people I have actually moved and not just disappeared completely from Kantas (remember what happened with Falcon, I refuse to repeat that mistake)
-Find planters for spider blooms, don’t let them takeover this time (use some wood from the burnt hut?)
-Get some lessons in the arcane
-No, I will finally get lessons
-Do it
