My Lady,
It has been only a few months since I left the Summer Lands and your song is one I miss most dearly. I know you said to gather stories and then come back to you with tales of my adventures, and I will do that – a word once given cannot be broken. I don’t imagine they have much post going from Kantas – this strange and beautiful place I have only just begun to explore – to the Summer Court, but I thought I’d write down something for now, for myself. Being a skald is not my forte, but if it means I can write the songs better later on, so be it! I address these notes? letters? to you because you’re the one for whom all my songs are for.
I shall start with my most recent adventure.
It was called “A simple job.”
Because I know so little of the realms outside your lands and because of my own misadventures in the lands of the fair folk, my caution saved me from a horrible death. What was advertised as simple, was not, and what was disguised as old and frail was actually cold and deadly.
Before I get into that part of it, I think my Lady would be happy to hear I had my first concert – a word used here that means a performance of spectacle, dancing and poorly received comedy. Originally, I and three others were to be sentinels and plants to bolster the crowds enthusiasm for one Faye Persona's performance. But they invited me to be a supporting performer on the stage with them, and that is how I did my first concert!
My Lady may think I have lessened myself but I didn't. I agreed to be a watchful guard to help the establishment's owner have a successful, albeit secret meeting, first before I had agreed to be a supporting act to someone else. I needed to make sure I was staying on target. And I did. Mostly.
Though I did manage to outperform Faye just a little with my song – you would have been pleased.
Unfortunately the other three – a tiefling man who smells of brimstone, another equally smelly human man (but of fish) , and a patchy elf man – were not very good at their task of keeping anyone from disturbing the oh-so-secret meeting. Though I do not think they were at fault for letting anyone in as the person who ended up trying to assault the special guest of said meeting turned out to not be the old woman they were disguised as, but a terrifying creature I found out afterwards was called an Oni.
It was frightening to behold – when it could be seen. It liked to turn invisible so we could not attack it! Luckily, Faye is more than just an ill-timed comedian. Their work with a blade is something that could rival her Ladyships guards… given a few hundred more years of practice. But it was the fishy smelling human man that managed to get the monster with a final stroke! The other's were all living icicles at this point and I could do nothing but attempt to heal someone one final time. Thankfully no one was lost that day. I may have only just met them – except for the brimstone one, Arkadius, he seems lovely, and I've done another job with him before! – but I would have disliked anything bad befalling any of them.
In the end we managed to save the special guest, slay the oni, and live to sing a song for another day!
The others were mumbling something about "wanting to know more". I feel like we did the job well though and were quick on our feet. I would have liked to know the guest is somewhere safe now but I guess I will just have to trust the owner's word that they are.
In any case, I am thriving and learning a lot about this strange and wonderful place. I hope to have a chance to talk with Faye a bit more – they seemed like they might know something about the ’Wilds, though I cannot say for sure. In any case, adventure waits for no woman and my feet are itching for a walk. Who knows where they will take me today.
Your loving daughter

The small bard placed her quill down and looked at the letter in front of her, scrunching her nose as she read it.
I don’t think I’ll send it, she decides.
Picking it up she folds it into a tiny flower and puts it in her satchel, sighing.
A good first adventure. I cannot wait for the next.
