My Dearest Lady,
Humbled that I am that You consider me capable of exploring the Kantas Expanse without Your ever-appreciated guidance, I would very much appreciate any kind of sign that You are still with me. Regardless, I hope You appreciate this latest segment of knowledge that I impart for You.
I was enjoying a catch-up drink with Jacinta (one of my companions on my initial visit to the City of Kundar) when… well, fortune would have it that someone entered the place and began having a hardly-concealed conversation with another one of the patrons about some very interesting subjects. Given that there was no attempt to disguise their conversation, and absolutely everyone else in the tavern also stopped their conversations to listen in to (first time I’ve ever seen everyone in a tavern paying attention to the very same thing silently!), I have no remorse in admitting… I listened carefully, throwing the odd facial expression in Jacinta’s direction.
Eventually, a giant cat (Seven of Six, I believe their name was. Pleasant fellow, liked yarn a lot, I feel.) intruded in on the conversation, as well as a few other folk. It seemed like an adventuring party was being formed before our very eyes, and… well, Jacinta and I joined up quick enough.
We travelled to some kind of… grove place, and met up with some dryads. They were very hospitable and very kind. I still have the diamond in my bag, I really need to find a more secure place to keep this, as my pocket is… not secure enough for such valuables. We discussed the task at hand, and honestly I was very, very lost. We then travelled through a portal, and… I gather from off-hand comments made by others in the coterie that we did not make it to the correct destination.
We explored a cave network that apparently formed part of the Underdark (uh oh), and were eventually ambushed. Long story short, a long battle ensued where my ego was dented more than once (but, thankfully, it meant I avoided getting hurt), and we were able to overcome the challenges presented and kill the mercenary hired to warn our associate. The dryads opened up a return portal for us following the battle, and we returned back to where we started in the grove. I feel that this may be the end of this particular story for me, as… Honestly? I feel hardly powerful enough to battle further foes of this strength quite yet. Maybe in the future…
As ever, eternally in Your service,
Arkadius Hogg
