Another week goes by, and talk heightens. It seems two more orphans, twins, cannot be found. These twins were well known in Daring, settled with a farming family north of Daring. Their guardians speak in worried tones to locals, asking if they have seen them. They mention a scrawled note found in the twins room; "Seek the Pearl". A day later, and another note appears on the Ettin board:

What does it say under the tally?

What does it say under the tally? 'Without you', according to Google.

With all three notes on hand I'd like to check again if Tugark recognises the writing or tone of voice, and if "ohne dich" is familiar to him.

Your investigation doesnt offer you anything more, there is still no hint to who has written it. Asking around the Ettin no one has seen who posted the notes. They just seem to appear in the night, ready for the morning opening.
You mull over the words Ohne Dich in your mind for hours. It seems familiar but its just out of reach as to why. Then you remember. A crewmate on the Orca used to use the phrase when you were out searching for the location on your map, but your sure the phrase was longer than that. It wasnt in a language or tongue you knew so you never used to pay any attention to it.

Regardless of whether or not these disappearances have been reported to the Watch officially there is no doubt that Grimes is now aware both of the missing orphans AND the notes addressed to Tugark. Watch patrols are on the increase and investigations are underway - official and through Grimes' personal contacts and network. In addition Grimes has visited Tugark to offer his help and ask a series of questions (including subtle and obtuse ones) to see if there is something Tugark might be missing. (Unfortunately I'm going to be missing Tuesdays from August until mid October - rehearsing for our production of the Elephant Man - but please feel free to use Grimes as an NPC - pretty sure all the DMs and long-time players know how Grimes "rolls".)

Grimes time with Tugark doesnt bring any more information, but it does make Tugark remember something. He remembers that when his crewmate recited Ohne Dich it was in some sort of sing song style. Maybe it was part of a shanty, or a song or something? Maybe someone in Kantas with a knowledge of music would recognise it?

Leocanto vaguely remembers the lyrics to a sea shanty. He explains to Tugark it used to be sung by people around the same time the tales of The Pearl began to surface.
Leocanto explains the he avoided learning the shanty because, to be honest, he didnt understand a single word in it. But he tries to recite the lines he does remember.
"I seem to remember it went something like.....
Ohne dich kann ich nicht sein Ohne dich
um.... dum de dum de dum.... oh yes,
Mit dir bin ich auch allein"
Leocanto shrugs, "Now you know why I never learnt it"
