Dear Thea,
Still alive. Still in Daring Heights. Still staying with the order.
There's a woman here named Sweet, she's a total badass. She's in charge of like the mounts and stuff and looks after Frankie for me when I've been on jobs. And there's Grits, he feeds us. Good man. Keeps giving Frankie scraps. They're nice people, these Crimson Fists.
Varis is the coolest, he's SO COOL Thea, I don't
I keep thinking I'm gonna do something stupid and they're gonna kick me out but so far they haven't.
So that's good, I guess?
Anyway, Markas and I went to check out that dragon in Port Ffirst I told you about. We brought Gesh and Pieni, Doddil and Kalta, a solid crew. (Granted, Markas keeps falling on his face and forgetting how to punch stuff, which is bad cos he's a MONK, but bless him, he's trying REALLY hard.) We had a drink in the Flourished Hook before setting out cos Markas (again, I know) upset the wrong crowd in the Shank and has been staying there for a bit. Suddenly, Sweet storms in and I'm all "guys be fucking cool she works for the Order, don't make me look bad" and Sweet is all "I'm so gad I caught you before you left" and she had brought me stuff from Varis!I can't believe he thought about me
Basically, it was a shopping list for dragon parts, a potion of acid resistance and the message "don't die". (And instructions to scout the area and close down tunnels to the underdark, bla bla, whatever)
So we set out and found the entrance to the tunnel, it was east of the Angelbark Woods and dug about for a bit (a shovel really would have helped) and down we went.
Quickly found some Drow people, turns out one of them was the same one that had helped that other party that had been down here, the one with the Klaus guy who died from stupidity. This super cool Drow named Laurelia and a woman just called "Priestess" eventually agreed to come along and help us - the dragon was a problem for them too, they lived down there after all. (The didn't want to come at first, and then Markas offered to spar with Laurelia to prove himself, got BEATEN to SHIT, I had to step in and prove what a mighty warrior I am. Then they agreed to come, of course. I am the Mightiest.)
Those tunnels were pretty rank, Thea. It was all hot and stuffy and at one point we had to walk through this like Kobold Graveyard City and it was covered in like fungus and spores and mushrooms and shit?? Nasty stuff.
Eventually we got to the cavern where the dragon had been and Pieni turned into a frog and hopped ahead to check it out. (This magic stuff can be pretty useful sometimes, when it's not being used for completely awful things.) Turns out, the dragon was dead. A big old skeleton, right there in the cave. Should have been an easy job, right?
There was another dragon, Thea. A bigger one. Older. It was BRILLIANT.
I drank this potion of embiggening that I've been saving for months and I like DOUBLED in size. My sword was like 10 feet long! Ghesh rode on my shoulder! Kalta did magic?! Doddil threw ice knives like nobody's business and dropped them sharp stone thingies from the ceiling straight onto the dragon's head!
(Markas fell unconscious twice and had to be healed and told to hide. My guy needs to get some training in with Paw, REAL SOON. This is not going well.)
But I got the best hit in, Thea, it was so good, you should have seen it! I got it right in the neck with that 10 foot sword and it Ran. Away. Full on, turned its tail and dove back into the cave lake and vanished. Because I am the best.
So we looted and took what we could from the dragon skelly and headed out. No dragon around to fight, we'll come back for them another day. Gave the drow a share of the loot so they'd let us out. Done and dusted, all in a day's work, no big deal.
I'm starting to think maybe Sunday was right. Maybe Phil was holding me back.
Anyway, I need to keep training Frankie now, he's almost got the hang of "STAY", gotta keep it up so he doesn't forget what the word means.
Write you soon again. All my love,
Baine
