A recount of an eventful day while sitting at the card table in the smoking room of the Etin.
" I found myself in quite the daze when I woke up this morning, didn't even pay attention to what was happening until we were treading though this forest with thick fog about seven miles to the south east of Daring Heights. Myself, Leocanto, Fudo, Gunny, Grimes, Tugark, and Elora were journeying to find the killer of this ranger, who was viciously killed by some strange animal. Right when I snapped out of it, a pixie grabbed a gold coin right out of my pocket. Thats what I get for daydreaming I guess." -He shrugs and smiles- "So everyone stands there no knowing exactly how to approach this and then Fudo, the monk of the long death who came with us, just out an' pierces the thing through with his spear. Shoulda guessed he'd do something like that, being a death monk and all. Anyway, he gets put straight to sleep by another one. They all start yelling and running around so, in that time I just swiped all the coins they dropped and gave them back in the interest of teamwork. We then moved on." -He shuffles his deck absentmindedly, cascading the cards from a perfect bridge.-
"We kept walking and eventually came to this clearing about three miles after that, we'd been walking northeast though, so I'd guess we'd be due east of Daring by then." -He deals the cards to the other players, a couple mill workers, a merchant and two members of the guard.- "We walked in, and there was a lake in the centre with a dense thicket of trees right next to it. The other trees seemed to want to keep their distance though. Some of us said there was a foulness in the air, but just then 6 boars came running out of the trees at the centre, straight toward us. Leocanto, straight away puts two to sleep, two others see me and Fudo, so they charge but we keenly jump outta the way. I stab mine in the ribs, and Fudo takes his on too. Tugark throws a javalin and hits one coming at him, but almost gets hit by the boar in the process. He then starts wrestling with it on the ground as Grimes deals the final blow to the boar on me. We then took the rest down without any injuries, and I scavenged the boars for whatever they had which turned out to be not much, no shit right?" -He deals the river and finds himself on top again, the other players curse their luck as Galen shuffles again-
"We kept going and set up camp, but heard strange noises from the lake all night long. Next day we walked out way into another clearing, this time with massive mud huts. Turns out we walked straight into a Firbolg Tribe's village. We introduced ourselves and told them our purpose and were promptly invited to meet with their leader Hama, who kindly told us the story of Svenit, the Firbolg who was bitten by a cursed rodent. They bound him up and brought him back to the village. They didn't really know what to do, and were too weak to make any serious decisions, so they exiled him. He departed and went to a hideout, with Hama believing she knew where he went. She told us his probable location and kindly enough gave us three clubs with silver coins hammered into the tops, along with 15 silver coins. With new information that silver is effective against lycanthropes, we melted the silver down and very crudely I dipped my shortsword in, Elora dipped in four arrowheads, and Tugark dipped in his axe blade." -He deals again, taking new bets-
"After that, we travelled to the large tree with a hollow that was believed to now be the hideout of Svenit. We finally reached the tree clearing and Leo, Fudo, Grimes, and myself chose to creep up to the tree with Tugark flanking and Elora and Gunny staying back. Fudo and myself being the only ones truly keeping quiet, we crept up. Leo's and Grimes' conversation being loud enough to alert Svenit inside he crept out and warned us off. The sun was setting by now so he stated the area was quite dangerous. The others started talking to him as I climbed the tree above him and positioned myself directly over his head." -He pauses the card game and takes a breath, a sorrowful look in his eyes.- "A few of us were hoping to subdue him so we could return him to Daring and have him possibly cured of this aliment by the clerics of the trade queen, but unfortunately the others conversed too long and I was too cautious, dropping upon him too late. I truly tried to tie him up, I... I tried..." -He takes another deep breath and crosses his arms.- "I was too late. The Firbolg, even though he was surrendering had no choice once the sun finally left the sky. He transformed into a were-rat right before us so I knew I had to act quickly. Fudo attempted to punch him with the coins we had tried to tie to Svenit's body but his hand merely bounced off. I knew I had no choice, so I stabbed the were-rat with my silver coated blade. The cut went deep, very deep, but it wasn't enough to kill it outright. I withdrew my sword and noticed the silver flaking off. We all attacked the creature, Gunny severely wounding it with an ice blast. Tugark raised his axe and..." -Galen pauses-
"Well, anyway. Unfortunately we did not subdue the creature. Tugark took his head, I took its tail, and Elora took its pelt. We made our way back, leaving out condolences with the Firbolg tribe. We then made our way back to Daring Heights on the way seeing a mountain surrounded by fog in the forests of the undead. When we got back we were able to receive double pay for the job and then I got a job here."
-He looks up and sees three empty seats and two grown men asleep on the table. He sighs and collects the pile of coins on the table muttering "...arseholes." under his breath as he walks out of the room.-
