"Losing and Exile"
12th entry in the journal of Markas Virnala
If nothing else, hoop seems to be happy with how this week has ended up.
I've had to move to the flourished Hook for a little while in new town after causing a bit of trouble for myself in th
Let's start at the beginning.
It's been just over a week since the Amaranthine games came to a close. The final round was a massive event where actual teams came together to support their chosen Arch Fey.
The Oyster arena was busier than ever with thousands of people and creatures all watching us… we could barely hear each other over the roar. The game was announced and the teams introduced much like the last time I was in this arena but everything had been cleared out and a huge portal was opened to yet ANOTHER Plane, I think it was called Mechanus? It was where all the small metallic creatures (Modrons I've now learned) come from. From what I could gather, Mechanus is a place embodying the idea of order…
The Final game was for each of the assembled teams, 5 in all, to go through the portal and use the great forges there to create giant mechanical "mechs" that we would then operate together as a team, from inside them and make them all fight each other…. It was basically a free for all battle but controlling giant metal monsters instead of actually using our own abilities!
So I opted to support Jack still. I still hadn't actually met him and I've heard from a few others that his mental state maybe somewhat… compromised? I even had a letter from Heret delivered to me asking me to fight for Titania instead. To be honest, I don't know much of any of the Arch Fey… but I made a decision to help him and that's what I'll do. I guess more than anything I wanted to be involved in something which, I've been thinking lately is a problem in itself.
So we set about making these constructions, telling the Modrons what we wanted, changing plans and designs again and again until we settled on a final creation, each team creating something different to represent their chosen side.
Jack's team basically created a larger version of Jack, spending our efforts into trying to mount a defence where we could as we all thought we would be the main target for the others, given the reception he generally receives…. And we were right. Our team consisted of Ghesh, Serpentine, Pieni, Ergin Brockskuter (A human fighter I think is quite new to Kantas, not sure how he got mixed up in this already!?), and something called a warforged? He was a mechanical creature, not wholly different from the Modrons but at the same time… definitely not a Modron. He was a champion chosen by Jack to support us. Meanwhile, Jack himself managed to sneak into the line of Modrons carrying out work on our construct… not sure he was supposed to but he looked happy with himself.
There were 2x teams supporting Sarastra, familiar faces on both teams including Paw, Rholor, Baine & Bogg, even Milo from the forge in Daring was around. The 2x constructs they put together where a three-legged humanoid looking thing with 2x huge cannons in its hands and another that looked like a massive tiger (I asked if Paw had an input on the design on this one but she insists she didn’t!)
The team running for Titania of course had Heret, as well as a few others I recognised like Ginead and Igrainne. Titania's chosen Ascendant was also with them, someone called Sunday? She is VERY interesting…. Their construct looked like a fairy with four arms that could fly and held 2x enormous longbows.
The last team was supporting the river king and looked kind of like a giant turtle? I'm not sure what happened with them but their construct seemed to have a problem and blew up almost straight away. Luckily no-one was hurt. I didn’t recognise anyone in their team but apparently one of them was Langston Farstep.
The fight itself was intense, but relatively short lived. As expected, a few teams all turned to us immediately and started attacking, so we spent most our time trying to evade, sometimes successfully, other times… not so much. Titania's team flew up high in the air and took a few shots at different teams while the three-legged person thing focused it's attacks on us in Jacks construct. The fight seemed to shift then, leaving us fighting the tiger construct while the fairy and human thing had a standoff, blasting each other with those huge cannons and arrows flying back and forth so fast, the area in between becoming a death trap. Ultimately, however, the fairy-like construct for Titania was the one left standing. Thankfully, again, everyone got out of the fallen mech before it went up in flames. From what I heard from Baine it was a close thing.
The fight carried on a little longer but ended with the three of us still standing. We had managed to give the tiger a beating but took a huge beating in the process as well. The Fairy-like mech was still visibly better off than any of us so when the power seemed to drain from them and the dust settled, they were declared the winner. We set about climbing out as the announcer proclaimed Titania the winner of the games and she summoned Sunday up to a central stage that had a literally just grown in the middle of the arena, and she was awarded her Ascension to Arch Fey…
But she said No! She just walked away!
Everyone was silent… and then Titania flew into a rage, I thought she would kill her. But then she just broke down laughing on the floor… This was not even close to how I pictured the games finishing. I would've liked to have freed Jack, though I'm not sure what that would also mean for everyone else…. I don't think Rholor would've been too bad as an Ascendant either. I was dubious about him to begin with but since I've been asking around, he seems a to have a good soul and Baine seems to support him, even if in passing.
Speaking of Baine, almost as soon as this all happened, he basically charged me, pretty angry I had left him in the Feywild… He has calmed down a little now but I can see why he was upset, I did drag him into this. Before I could say anything Heret came over and congratulated us, even putting a coin of Platinum in my hand then headed off back to his trade empire he's building.
The rest of the day was pretty much spent celebrating and joining in the revelry of occasion. I never did see Jack again though so I can't help but wonder what became of him. I don't imagine the Queen of Night and Magic will be forgiving of him…

The rest of the week was…. a bit of a mixed bag.
The Good.
Days after the main event, I actually surprised to be seeing Rama again (He was on the same team as Paw in the Final round), who had gone about making me a new Silver Falchion! I was stunned…. I did speak to him once and remember him saying he was planning on making a few silver weapons but I didn't expect him to gift me one! I was reluctant to take it at first but he insisted, saying it was a symbol of friendship between us. Hoop wasn't too keen on Rama calling them a Plate, but the whole exchange hit me pretty hard. I've made some strong friends here, some of which I'd never normally expect I would become so connected to.
The Bad.
After the party had died down, I went back to Port Ffirst and tried my hand in the fighting Pits again. Originally, I was going to train with Paw again but decided to give this a go again. I think I was still amped up a little from all the commotion in the FeyWild recently and wanted to push myself. I didn't fair too badly this time, facing a guy called Lawson. I'd fought him before but he is a bit of a showman and built up a following since the last time I did. When I won a few rounds, everyone seemed to get angry about it… Needless to say, it was getting a bit hard walking around with people trying to pick a fight or shout something at me so I've had to move out of the Seashank temporarily.
Hoop, at least is happy about this. The room I've rented in the Flourished Hook is significantly better than the grimy shambles the Seashank offers. Still, there is a lot of traffic through there and I feel a little out of touch since I've been here. Still, I guess it could be worse….. I could've been run out of town entirely. Things should die down soon enough so I'm not too worried either way.
Something is not right though and I can't really see what it is. I feel…. Like I'm floating I guess. Most people I meet seem to be doing something or working towards something… Paw is so serene in how she carries herself but she is driven by whatever arrangement she has with Karlessa…. Baine has spoken of the troubles he had at home and that I take it is part to of what seems to be pushing him on…. Everyone seems to be doing something but I only came to Kantas as a wanderer, to see what was here, and while I don't regret coming, I don't know why I'm staying. Besides the promise to Hoop, I'm not sure what I am actually working towards.
Maybe it's time to take Paw up on that training again, see if I can get my head back on straight.
