"Dear Thea,
It's over. The bloody games are done and wrapped up, I don't have to ever go back. Thank fuck.
(We ended up fighting in these massive mechanical bodies, all the people who had declared for the different Fey nobles. Absolutely mental. Titania won, and then Sunday turned down the ascension, which just made the whole thing even more pointless.)
Rholor brought me back to Daring Heights where I am now, to pick up Frankie. We got a little bit drunk and he almost showed an entire emotion for a second. Melissa, this girl who like works in his temple or something, told me that apparently I've done something special cause Rholor doesn't speak to people the way he speaks to me. Clearly, I'm super fucking charming, Mel.
Sunday said to meet her back here in Daring after the games, so I've been staying at the Ettin and chatting with the locals.
Met a guy named Grimes who is like, the coolest dude ever. He runs the city guard in Daring but isn't a dick about it. Told me a bunch of stuff about Daring Height's history. Apparently they had to fight a whole bunch of orcs a few years ago and it mashed the city up pretty good. (He told me all about while not giving me shit for being half orc which was, you know, pretty cool of him.)
I told him about what happened in the games and he seemed as over the whole thing as I am. Daring had a plague a while back, they had to shut down the whole city and like 200 people died and GUESS why the plague happened?? Yeah, the fucking Games. Gods, the fey nobles are SHITS. We got good and drunk after that. Sunday, Pieni and Taffeta dropped in as well, but Taffeta left cos she doesn't like Grimes, I think. Not sure why.
Told Sunday and the others a little about Dad, cos she asked about what happened at the end of that game I told you about, the one with the illusions.
Apparently Sunday actually killed large parts of her family when she was younger. We're just a fucked up lot, all us adventurers.
And then this morning we went to the Crimson Fist compound and sparred, and that was BRILLIANT. Sunday absolutely DESTROYED me. I got a few good hits in, but all she needed was two rounds of those hammers of hers and WHAM, I'm down and out. She's so tiny, and so massively powerful. I want to be as good as her one day.
But here's where it gets interesting yeah?
So she brains me with her hammers and down I go. She heals me back up again and while we take a breather before round 2 she starts asking me about Phil. She's all like "Where did your joy go during the fight?" and I'm like "what" and she's all like "Your sword is holding you back" and wants me to fight her with some sword she dug out of Varis' pantry and Phil is screaming bloody murder in my head because how dare she, how fucking dare she, I fight with Phil and no one else, and I don't wanna hurt his feelings so I turn her down.
We go in for round 2, and Heret and Pieni join in. There's some quicklings (ugh, ouch) and and Heret gets knocked out in like under 6 seconds. I kill some quicklings and throw whatever little I have left at Sunday, who takes it and then fuck me up again. I'm down and out and Grimes drags me off to the side before deciding to FIGHT SUNDAY and I swear, Grimes is the coolest motherfucker I have ever met. He had a sword that he fought with that like only hurts your mind???
The two of them eventually called it a draw. It was amazing.
And then, as I'm trying to find the strength to stand up straight without my legs shaking, Sunday comes skipping over and as all "Can I try something" and wants to do some magic to Phil and I'm all like "Uhm, I don't know, what do you mean, what are you donna do" and she's like "I won't hurt him or you" so I hold Phil out for her and she does some kind of magic-
And then he's gone.
Just, poof! Voice in my head, gone.
And I'm SO ANGRY right, cos that was my friend. Granted, he was very angry, all the time and he wouldn't let me fight with any other weapon and I couldn't ever like.. put him down far away from me and I had to sleep with him next to me and sometimes when I fought I would like, forget stuff and not be able to stop, but, he was mine. He made me better, I thought.
Sunday says he wasn't making me a better, that he was holding me back and that he was dangerous.
She had a talking weapon once, apparently, and he made her do a bunch of really fucked up stuff and she didn't want that to happen to me.
I'm gonna miss Phil tho. He wasn't the best at talking but at least I was never alone. But I've got Frankie now, I guess. So I'll just work on being a good enough fighter to impress Sunday and teach Frankie how to feed people potions during battle. We'll be unstoppable.
Going on another job next week - heard about it in the Ettin. Someone named The Duchess is hiring for a one time thing and Paw is gonna be there, so it can't be all bad. Apparently another half-orc named Tugark is coming. I've seen him around the Fighting Pits in Port Ffirst, and honestly Thea, I have to meet this guy properly.
I'll write you when it's done and tell you all about it.
All my love,
Baine"
