After getting a letter from another dragonborn in Daring Heights, I headed there and, together with a mixture of adventurers, got given a task: to visit Kundar and report back on how the dragonborn there are treated. I think I was the only one of the party with any idea what to expect, having been a slave there when I was younger. It turns out though that either things have got worse or word never reached me about what else was happening in the city while I was there.
We set off with a trading caravan heading the same way, and after various conversations with the folks travelling that way we discovered that, for those knowing where to look, dragonborn could be on the menu in Kundar. Two members of the party decided to go undercover to investigate this and hopefully infiltrate the illegal meat market once we made it there. Also on the road we came across a very strange plateau that appeared to be magical, but after a glimpse inside the passageway it seemed very sinister and we were on a job already. Could be worth returning to in future though.
Once we made it into Kundar I used my hat of disguise to look like a hobgoblin and the fellow dragonborn travelling with us opted for a more basic choice: a troll disguise crafted by another member of the party. Turns out trolls and dragonborn don't look very similar at all so it was a bit improvised. We headed to the nearest pub (as always) and chatted with some of the locals. This got us the address of the butcher who it turns out will sell nearly any meat you want, including dragonborn, and the news that in one neighborhood there had been several disappearances recently. After a bit of coordinating, we split into two groups, one heading to the butchers and the other to set a trap for whoever was kidnapping in the neighborhood.
I was with the group setting the trap. The plan was to have the other dragonborn looking a bit lost and quite conspicuous and for the rest of us to hide and step in when the would-be kidnapper(s) arrived. However, it turned out that the stealth option taken by our halfling was not a good choice (hiding under a box and walking like that), and that they were not only interested in dragonborn, but in any "exotic" (to Kundar) race. A troop of 8 goblins swarmed on the box containing the halfling, but between some quick reactions with a flame blade and me having a chance to use my new axe we quickly cut down 3 of them, including the leader, and the others fled. We caught one as it tried to escape and found out that they were working for someone interested in strange meats (still not sure if this is the same butcher or another one) and had been watching us since we arrived, waiting for a chance to take us down.
Once we caught up with the two who had gone to the butchers we discovered they had managed to enquire on the basis of trying to set up trade outside of Kundar and would be back to discuss further in a week. We decided we now had some useful information to send back to Daring Heights so made the journey there. I still want to go and see what else I didn't know about the city though, it seems I was very lucky to leave when I did.
