Mother Night Serpent, I can feel my power, your power, growing within me.
I am bringing nightmares into the world and controlling them. I hope you're pleased...
I have been doing as you instructed. I've been travelling with those of strength. The noble, the good, the powerful, the fighters to see what they're capable of and push myself further. Today's task was to clear the sewers under the ground. There'd been rumours of creature attacks and missing victims that the rich had tasked the poor to figure out.
Today's crew consisted of two I had met before. The Half Orc Fighter and the small halfling thief. Both are impressive adventures. The Half-Orc is fun to mess around with but one I would not like to make a foe out of. The Halfling is sneaky but also skilled in arcane arts. They also had a child on them. Another halfling. A little boy. They referred to each other as this child's Dad/Papa which biologically makes no sense to me but I have learnt to not question how this world works too much. We were also accompanied by a Dwarf and a Half Elf. The Dwarf’s facial hair was particularly odd whilst the Half Elf seemed to be permanently covered in filth and dirt and mess. Despite this, all are capable in battle and the five appeared to know each other from previous adventures. Maybe I might need to befriend more people and have strength in numbers. There seems to be a joy and benefit to that.
Our taskmaster told us of what to do in the sewers as well as witnesses of some of the events happening. We visited the holy man Priest first. He protested regularly that he did not drink and I believed him despite the others in the team feeling otherwise. Priest told us of tentacled creatures and a hatred for his boss. I grew displeased of his dislike for the one in power so left him with something to think about. Your blessing to let me speak to others minds is continually useful Mother Serpent.
We then questioned the woman. I believe she went by the name Alesha. She appeared interested myself, even in my natural devilish guise. She asked about my whereabouts in the evening. Mother Serpent I may have some fun with her whilst still continuing your quests if that is fine. She did not, however, strengthen Priests story so we took it upon ourselves to venture into the sewers.
There the team tried to progress down this smelly underground but the child halfling got caught in the currents of the sewage. The Orc-like one attempted to rescue this infant but got swept up in the currents. I don't know what came over me but I leapt in to save it whilst the infant used magic to climb itself to safety. There's wildness in him. He could be of interest.
Beyond this section our servant Monty scouted ahead. There he found a hidden passageway. Beyond it was another halfling and another half orc. We recognised them as minions of the red woman we had met a few months back. They were not hostile to us and proved helpful in exchange for gold. We have very little use for gold so this ultimately proved worthy. They told us of the creatures further within. Part fish, seemingly monstrous. Mother Serpent your wisdom has given me much but not the answers to what we were facing.
We ventured further down this seemingly newly built sewer system with our servant Monty scouting ahead. He found a nest of two goblins and expertly knocked one out though it seemed to bemuse the rest of the party travelling with me. I’ll need to figure out what people’s emotions and intentions are at a later date. The half orc beheaded one of the other goblins which was quite a feat to behold and the party seemed to praise that more than me knocking a goblin out. Perhaps killing these creatures might gain more worship? It is one I shall think back over Mother. I did rescue you an ear Mother. Another to add to the collection of those who listen to false idols or speak of false gods.
We ultimately came across our final destination, an unusually shaped room with a pool and creatures emerging from it. Sensing this was the battle we had been assigned to fight I finally pushed my powers and called forth a great demon to aid us in the battle. The Barlgura was a mighty ally and proved a great distraction whilst this mismatch of a team could aid in the battle. You’ll be proud that I was able to control this foul demon during the battle. Mother Serpent, I will continue to grow this power and see what else we may be able to bring on our journey and what other nightmarish creatures I can call forth to further our goals.
I must report that others didn’t seem as pleased with my tactics during our collaboration. The sneaky halfling one seemed displeased of our use of Monty and our Magic. A pity as we hold her and her dextrous ways in high regard. Perhaps we should try a different approach in the future. The half orc seemed to be satisfied with the chance to fight. Easy to work with and can be useful if need be. Their connection to this child could be an interesting one as I see a lot of potential for chaos in this child's future. The dwarf’s magic proved powerful whilst the speed and precision of the half elf also came in aid in the final battle which we were triumphant in.
Mother Night Serpent, I will continue to travel and learn more about this land and assess who we might one day want to let in on our cause and worship of you. For now I will try and do better and become friends with some of these people. Maybe I must grow a new tact when approaching these tasks and challenges and wait for them to lead. I will consider it, though I have progressed this far relatively unscathed. I have been able to survive this long but trust might be a factor I need to improve on and use to my advantage. That and friendship. I think my first approach will be to learn of the names of the people surrounding me. They seem to put a lot more importance in a name than I ever have. I've been noticing this more and more on my adventures, especially when travelling out with people I have been around before. Perhaps my future may see me use the Infernal name I was born with as oppose to the virtue you bestowed on me, Dendar.
