Journal Entry Two
A few days passed since my encounter in the fey world and a series of messages have arrived and been put up on the board next to each other, each written in a different hand on different paper. They all bear a message that is written in Elvish, is roughly similar and says something like:
"Another round of the Amaranthine Games is coming up and I am in the market for participants. It shall be a race, according to what is currently known, though not much more is known.
I am looking to hire racers therefore; I will take as many as are worthy to run. There is no limit on participants."
Each is signed from the thrones of: The Queen of Night and Magic, the River King, the Summer Queen, the Snow Queen and a 5th parchment whose writing is scrawling and messy, but is signed 'The Jack.'
Was considering joining ‘The Jack’ for he was offering a party if he wins but I stuck with Sarastra Aestruum, Queen of Night & Magic; given that I had taken her side once already.
Nothing was mentioned about where to meet or go to but assumed I will be summoned when needed; and summoned indeed I was while on my daily walk in the city.
Suddenly I find myself teleported into a field with one side showing hundreds of spectators and four thrones, found myself standing in a circle with another female tiefling who introduced herself as Nikga and a couple of elfs who were wearing matching skin tight outfits; and just rude, looking to both sides saw other teams in their circles humans, elfs, arakockra, tiny pixies and goblins; even saw Cerce who looked intense and on edge (as much intense as half lightning person can be) with another human, I assumed they were racing for the river king and I wasn’t wrong
I looked at Queen Sarastra and my she is a delight to the eye.
A human sized pixie fluttered down introduced himself in a booming voice as Caladrell Idryl; he introduced the Queens and King and then suddenly stopped and looked confused at his cards and said Jack “that’s when a pile next Queen Sarastra’s throne started shuffling and moving” from the pile a really long metalic humanoid looking creature with a harlequin shapes on his outfit and a jesters hat. And that’s when Queen Sarastra broke her composure and slapped him in the face giving him considerable dent. He explained that the rules said only some who has a throne and that she gave him one a while ago to entertain some guests, she slapped him again. Caladrell tried stopping saying it’s against the rules to hit another contestant and two points will be taken as a penalty. She didn’t look like she cared but her composure returned as fast as it was gone and sat down silently, Jack moved to the side where a fifth throne appeared and sat down.
Caladrell returned and explained the rules that we are to climb up Mt. Selwyn, pick up our flag and return it to the start line to win. He explained as well that no direct killing is allowed, only specific level of spells are allowed and no touching or directly affecting another team’s flag is allowed.
He set us in a specific order and that’s when I smelled it the smell of Sulphur and the race begun.
The Goblins from the front suddenly looked at us and I could feel a wave of magic trying to confuse my mind but I just about managed to keep running ahead avoiding a large eagle and other confused racers, Nikga and the other two elves didn’t fare so well. So, I kept running till I reached the mountain with a decent head start against many even Cerce, I started scaling it and that was when what I was worried of started. The mountain rumbled and lava started shooting out and pouring out; Needless to say, that put me into a rage which boosted me to scale up and some lava touched my skin but my skin resisted the pain, some boulders almost took me out halfway but I was lucky enough.
I reached the summit avoided the trickling lava and could swear I saw the river king’s flag disappear but I had to go on. Saw the goblins from earlier flying down so I tied the rope I had on me prepared for when I am summoned, while I was doing that William appeared (I think he was on the Snow Queen’s team) I gave him a small nod and gave my back to finish tying the rope not noticing his flag moving on its own and touching me.
I got frozen in my spot by some unseen force, managed after a few seconds breaking off that force, grabbed my rope and jumped into the crater, when I reached the end of the rope I saw Nikga taking down one of the goblins who is holding Jack’s flag and he plummeted to his death. She looked at me and I was still far off so I threw the flag to her she failed to catch but it did fall near her, she grabbed it and off she ran to finish the race.
I scaled down slowly found the entrance where no doubt Nikga and the goblins came from, I went out saw some racers pushing each other down; saw Nikga and some horse next to her in the distance both bolting for it. It was close but She went through claiming the win for our team.
Nikja got awarded a really intricate coat, and our entire team got awarded beautiful silvered weapons with amazing designs on both the weapons and sheath(Not sure why those elves got any , it wasn't as if they were of much help).
“Really curious what will happen in my next encounter with the queen.”
Sorry couldn't write much of what happened but unfortunately each person was in a different spot. Highlights:
Golden squirrel using a crow to fly up the mountain.
Rooster an awesome half elf magic fighter turns into a giant eagle. Stopping Lanson Farstep while invisible in his tracks freezing in his spot due to touching the flag and halting him even farther.
Trevor side hitting two others and continuing his run no matter what.
Heret requesting help from a tiny frozen golden squirrel .
Pieni in an amazing feat of strength and will flying through the thick smoke of the volcano arriving at the summit and healing Heret who was down for the count with 1 HP only
Nikga for being the only one who asked the Maudrons the given free hints to find a faster entry to the summit.
Lastly but not least the witty William for using the rules against us freezing us in the spot by touching us with his flag.
