URGENT - for the attention of Daring Heights Council - initial notes and summary from Sergeant Grimes (DHCW)
NEW ELYSIUM - Threat level HIGH
At the request of the Duchess (and with the Council's knowledge on my part) the following individuals travelled to the portal to New Elysium:
Grimes, Daisy, Tugark, Paw, Darius, Demik.
Our task was to gather intelligence but primarily to obtain a "key" which would allow the portal to be locked.
We were informed that there would be a contact we could trust already in place in New Elysium (location and identity withheld here).
New Elysium in located in the plane of Chaos.
At first glance the city appears large, affluent and extremely advanced and impressive in terms of size, construction and number of larger buildings and towers.
Initial exploration and encounters quickly revealed that this is no paradise. Quite the opposite - it is a place of anarchy, lawlessness, chaos, fear, extortion and repression.
There is no government to hold to account and no protection for those who cannot pay for it. Even more unsettling is the fact that individuals are held "hostage" - they must pay thousands in Gold to leave New Elysium yet have no chance to amass (or retain) such amounts.
Citizens live in fear of thugs and the power of Randall Salt and his "associates". Everyone is watched by Wyvern patrols. (It should be assumed that less obvious forms of monitoring are also in place.)
Randall Salt is no beneficial leader of the free - he is a tyrant. (Grimes is reminded of an old quote he heard - "Those that have - keep it!")
Useful information was obtained about Randall Salt by Daisy (sources withheld).
Once located, our contact advised us where we would find the key and how they would ensure our escape (along with any DH citizens they could retrieve).
Our challenge was to access the largest building (Randall Salt's HQ) and make our way up to the 17th floor "Research and Development" and locate and retrieve the "key".
Our contact created a distraction which allowed entry to the building and rapid neutralization of assorted guards.
The R&D floor was explored and we found disturbing signs of experimentation on living beings and possible attempts at fusing flesh and mechanical components. The individual responsible has the name ISAAC DREVEL. Information and documentation retrieved from the location reveals that there is some plan which suggests a threat against Kantas and DH specifically.
It quotes:
"Step 1 - leaflets in Daring Heights promoting New Elysium"
"Step 2 - infiltrate Daring Heights"
Both of these steps were marked as complete. Recommend heightened scrutiny of all new visitors to DH.
The party came under attack by 2 very powerful yet very young mages and a huge construct made of metal. Several of the party suffered significant damage from spells and traps especially but good teamwork allowed the group to kill the mages and destroy the construct (with Tugark striking the final blow).
NOTE: the 2 young mages were on the list of test "subjects" we found. These were listed as trainees but others were marked as "in the field". All efforts must be made to find any such dangerous individuals within Kantas and especially DH.
Immediately after this short but intense battle the party encountered a human male purporting to be Randall Salt in his office. (Note - almost certainly a diversion or substitute. Daisy subsequently advised us that the individual appeared to be far too young to be Salt and his ease of dispatch was suspicious.) There was no fear or concern in his demeanour - only contempt and arrogance and an attempt (not convincing) to appear uninterested in Daring Heights and Kantas. He relinquished the "key" without any protest.
Possibly still battle-focused, Tugark swung his Greataxe and killed the man with a single blow.
We quickly searched the floor again gathering such information and papers as we could before exiting the building rapidly and regrouping with our contact and several DH citizens before plane jumping back to Kantas.
The key was then used to shut the portal to New Elysium.
Other comments:
Commend the efforts of Paw, Darius and Tugark in combating several significant threats - particularly the "Construct" encountered on the R&D floor of Salt's HQ.
Magical support from Daisy proved extremely useful in combating the 2 mages.
Personal commendation and thanks to Daisy for her healing skills and spells which ensured all party members stayed on their feet throughout a short but particularly challenging encounter.
(Side note - Grimes lost a total of 110 HP during the mission and has a 103 HP !)
