With a stretch, Markas stands up.
A fireplace warms the room with its low crackling fire, as two comfortable arm chairs look onto it, sitting on an ornate rug covering a hard wood floor. He takes a second to admire the walls that are lined with shelves, upon which are displayed a myriad of articles: Countless books with cracked spines, various examples of weapons displayed on stands, odd pieces of armour and neatly folded clothing in array of styles, all of which sit among a host of small oddities, trinkets and shiny stones. His gaze stops briefly at the most recent addition to this collection, a small tuft of hair taken from a werewolf, before grabbing his pack and leaving the room.
There are no doors, nor windows in this room, save for one opening into the ceiling, reached by a few well-placed iron bars used as steps, leading into…. A dark, dank, mouldy and bleak looking room. A horrifyingly stained bed sits in one corner and an unidentifiable smell pervades the room. Every surface has a slight layer of grime that seems to now actually be contributing to holding the building together, not helped by the fact that there are numerous holes and opening in the walls and floor.
This is the Room Markas rents in the Cavernous Seashank, the dive bar located in Old Town, Port Ffirst. As he takes a step forward, if you glance back, instead of the opening back into the room with a fireplace, all you will see is a simple looking plate, propped on a rickety table.
Markas is a tall half-elf, with neat, trimmed hair and a clean shaven face. He has a very simple attire consisting of some light, loose travelling clothes but these are now badly stained and worn, most notably is the large slash across front that has been roughly pinned back together. He has been in Kantas for a few weeks now and the adventure work he has been doing is starting to visibly take its toll on his gear…. Otherwise, he has a lean build and is fairly athletic, mainly from maintaining his training in Martial Arts after leaving the Monastery, however, partially also due to a sporadic diet enforced by a lack of food at times.
There are 2x major defining qualities to Markas' personality you will start to see if you spend time with him:
Markas is a kind soul. He was ostracised for being a half-elf at a very young age, leading to his mother sending him off to stay at monastery rather than have him live an unhappy childhood. His time in the Monastery, by contrast, was a happy one. Being part of a close knit group of people he trusted and cared for, he has grown to be a kind (if at times mischievous) person who generally likes to see the better in people and likes to help where he can. It's this attitude that has resulted in him 'adopting' Hoop, the Plate.
Being stuck in one place for so long however brought on a wanderlust he couldn't ignore, setting him on the path of an adventurer, leading him, naturally, to Kantas. There is a certain naivety about Markas as the onslaught of new experiences, peoples and cultures seem to be rubbing off on him, occasionally leading towards erratic behaviour, but this remains underpinned but his inquisitiveness and desire to help people.
And now we come to Hoop, a simple, unadorned dinner plate. If you, of course ignore the sentience that lives within!
Appearing as an expressive and bold face within the plate, Hoop is a Flirtatious, Sassy, Spontaneous and whimsical character, capable of changing their visage to that of a room, which the inquisitive mind can discover they can actually enter as if the plate were a doorway. Found during one of his first adventures in Kantas, Markas has now decided to adopt Hoop and bring them along on his adventures with him, partly so they aren't just left bored on a shelf somewhere and also to fulfil the promise he made to Hoop and look for their previous owner, who hasn’t been seen in a long time. He has come to enjoy Hoop's company now though and often likes to inlclude them it what is going on around them. Markas often spends time in the room within the plate and now is also regularly on the lookout for interesting trinkets and treasures to add to the collection within the room and satisfy Hoop's undying intrigue….
