Sitting downstairs in the Cavernous Seashank as always, I ended up in a conversation about some strange goings on. Apparently there has been an assassination attempt right here, which involved some kind of imp. Talk turned to some paperwork that had recently been found that some strange human with blue hair seemed to be able to read (it just looked like scribbles to me), and in it we discovered that some guy in town had made a bargain with a powerful demon ( a "Lord of the 6th Hell", whatever that means) that gave him wealth, influence and protection from one particular weapon, in return for 100 souls or his own at the end of a year. Among the other paperwork there was a deed to a farm that this same guy had just bought and something about making permanent portals to a different plane. Once we found this, we decided to go and see whether the farm and the portal ritual were related, before quickly realising that we had no idea where this farm was.
Upon Mystigon asking at the bar and Zeenah chatting up an elf, we got some directions to the farm that, turns out, was only about an hour away. Being late evening, we decided to call it a night and head out in the morning.
On our way some of the group noticed a quick rustling in the bushed, as though we were being watched, but we couldn't see who it might have been so we decided to press on regardless (Zeenah said one of her exes sometimes followed her so I made sure to keep a look out). On getting nearer the farm, we saw a large farmhouse and decided to investigate it. Kherris helped keep us all quiet with some magic and I lost track of him a bit while we approached, he was that silent. After discovering there were people inside speaking a strange language, Zeenah decided she wanted to try a forward approach so she and Mystigon headed to the front door while Zig, Kherris and I headed to guard the back and Peini watched from the roof (after summoning two giant eagles).
An old man opened the door and, seeming pretty suspicious, refused to let them in (although he shouted louder than needed, it didn't sound like he really wanted them to leave). Zeenah cast message to him to check whether he needed help and he unlocked the door but left it closed. At the same time, Peini sent his eagles to look through the window and saw a further three people inside so gestured to us to tell us. Suddenly Zeenah slammed the front door open at the same time that Peini jumped on the back of one eagle and flew in through the window. Assuming this meant we were attacking, we broke the back door down and headed in, only to find the old man had been stabbed and there were actually five other people inside.
Jumping straight into the fight, we quickly managed to dispatch with the humans in the corridor and the snake people in the main room. Using a detect magic spell, Zig told us that the next room contained something magical so while the rest of us were looking around sections of the house, Peini and Mystigon headed through. I then heard some commotion and it turned out the rug Peini stepped on was animated and started to attack. Mystigon used burning hands and i followed that up with my acid breath, and we quickly left it melting on the floor. However, then Mystigon went to open a chest in the corner which also began to move and grappled him. I tried to free him and got stuck myself but Kherris managed to shoot straight at it and we quickly finished that one off too.
Zeenah heard from the old man that his wife was being held downstairs as a prisoner so off we went into the cellar. Zeenah wanted to scout ahead so turned invisible and disappeared down the corridor, but we then heard some bits of rock falling from where she went, and it turns out it wasn't just us who heard this. Out of some double doors came two more snake people and a flying devil. We all charged into one small area of the corridor and soon it was just the devil remaining. Peini, who was transformed into a spider, crawled past the devil into the chamber then reverted back into his normal form and summoned 4 apes, who pulverized what was left of the devil in one quick set of attacks. Having doen what we came to the farm to do we released the old man's wife and left the two of them to recover and headed back into town with another story to tell.
