Kalta hadn't spent much time in Daring Heights since her arrival in Kantas, and it seemed she'd chosen an unfortunate time to change that. First she and a group of adventurers were sent on a wild goose chase, and then when they returned they found they couldn't even enter the city.
Kalta was a soldier, she understood the need for a quarantine. She'd seen how fast sickness could rush through a place. But to return, low on rations and energy, only to be told that they couldn't go in and buy some ale and rest but needed to turn right around again?
Kalta understood the necessity, but it did not make her happy. Neither did the fact that they had to rush to Kundar in the hopes of finding a cure before the entire city was affected by this plague. The rest of the group begged some horses from Daring Heights, and they set off.
Of course, it could never be as simple as just travelling somewhere. When they settled down to rest that first night, they were attacked by a distant figure, shooting arrows from five hundred feet away with apparently deadly accuracy. Kalta had seen archers as skilled as this before, but not many.
The figure sent a message- a note tied to an arrow, saying that they would not be allowed to help find a cure and that they needed to run. Arrows hit the horses.
Running didn't seem like a good option- run away completely, and Daring Heights would be destroyed by plague. Run towards Kundar, and this archer would keep hounding them. The only option she saw was the same one her fellow travellers chose.
Each of them began making their way closer to the figure. Kalta stayed under cover as much as possible, which slowed her enough that by the time she reached the figure, he was already surrendering. The group questioned him, but all he would reveal was that he was a mercenary hired to prevent anyone from aiding Daring Heights. He would not, or could not, reveal his employer beyond saying they were likely from the Fey Wilds.
With their enemy defeated, Kalta and the others proceeded to Kundar. They went first to the tavern (it had been a long couple of days, and it was a good place to find information) before proceeding to the temple of Bahamut. The healers there spoke of a Dr. Greenclaw who would know how to cure the illness which had struck Daring Heights.
Kalta found it quite uncomfortable, travelling to Dr. Greenclaw's home. The ceilings and tunnels were not built with half-orcs in mind. When they reached Dr. Greenclaw's home, Kalta could only call from outside as smaller party members entered.
Although she took a little persuading, Dr. Greenclaw agreed to travel with the temple healers to Daring Heights. Given the choice to either transport with them to Daring Heights and be quarantined or travel overland to Port Ffirst, Kalta chose the latter. Port Ffirst was the town she knew best, anyway, and she could almost find herself missing even the ale served at the Cavernous Seashank after all those days on the road. Kalta was no healer, to go to a town beset by plague. She would have to wait until the quarantine was lifted to receive her pay from her Daring Heights employers.
