How are you? Please say hello to Lessy and Linry and Parrin and tell them me and Aila and Ma and Pa and Nana Rose send lots of love. Please write soon and tell me what you’ve all been doing.
Ma said I should write to you because we have some big news. Its so big I thought you wont believe it but Ma says to trust you because, you know I wouldn’t fib about this sort of thing.
Basically Auntie Vatina you know how you always sayTimeTymora is a hin goddess and Auntie Chenie laughs and says no she isnt and you pretend to sulk, well I’m sorry Auntie Chenie but Auntie Vatina is definately right. Tymora is one of our folks gods, she really is. I know it for sure now and I have her medalion. She wants everyone to know. Its why we came to Kantas.
Ma says I should tell you the whole story. I’ve been having my feelings and my knowings more and more and one day I knew there was a really nasty vampire and I had to get some people to come with me and Ma to the north to kill her. I know Ma doesn’t like killing people but vampires aren’t really people anymore and this one was really evil. Ma didn’t want to go at first and then she didnt want me to go but I told her we had to go together. Miss Daisy came too even though she was really tired from being an ambassador all the time lately, because shes a good friend of Ma’s. And a very tall man called Orilokey who has tattoos that move came too and a friend of Miss Daisys who is like a cat lady called Paw and, there was another lady called Quintina who was funny. I’m pretty sure she was high most of the time. Please dont tell Ma I know about drugs though. I think she knows I know but she might be sad if she had to think about that. She sometimes gets sad about things me and Aila have seen since we’ve lived here.
We went way up to the north of here all the way to the other side of the forest. Near the end of the forest we met some more of Miss Daisy’s friends, they were a tree lady called Rowan and a very tall tree angel called Will. They were both so nice. Will is so beautiful and good like more than a person, like Tymora a bit but different.ShThey gave me a necklace made out of an acorn to keep me safe. Then we left the forest and Miss Daisy said its the furthest anyone from town has ever gone. There’s grass and hills and a river there, its quite like home really. Paw and Daisy did a lot of meditating. Miss Daisy was learning things about the land and the animals but I’m not sure what kind of meditating Miss Paw was doing.
We met another cat person from a village called something like Kyrzid Vondar who wanted us to go there but they were working for the vampire who is called the Duchess, later we found out the Duchess is called Magali Khalister. The next day we got attacked by some more people from the Duchess. There was two vampire kenku and lots ofarac aarakocra and they tried to grab me but Ma and Mister Ori and the acorn necklace protected me and Ma and the others beat them all. One of the aarakockra knew Miss Daisy and stopped fighting us and they talked. She was called Yaki and her and Miss Daisy are both descended from someone called Kazeefa who looked like Daisy and lived in the aaraco aarakocra village years and years ago but then went away. Yaki said we should go home because the Duchess is in charge of the village and someone called Bastion will come and kill her and us. Mister Ori got rid of some kind of magic that was on Yaki and then she was less scared and went back to her village. The Duchess people were all wearing a little emblem thing on their clothes and Mister Ori said its the same as a famous family of vampires from the old days somewhere east of the Storm Horns, a group of powerful people killed them except one got away so we think maybe that’s the Duchess.
Anyway Miss Quintina wandered off somewhere but I knew it didnt matter because someone else was coming to help and then someone fell out of the feywild. He’s called Junastro except its pronounced Yunastro but he says you write it with a J. He’s very pretty hes an elf and hasaceasymetrical hair and tattoos of stars on his face and his arm. I think I’d like a tatto but I don’t know what to have it of. Junastro knows Queen Sarastra. Mister Ori didnt trust him and got quite stressed because of that and being out in the open and maybe some more vampires coming to find us so we went somewhere and spent the night in a magic tent that he can do.
We went to look at Kyrzid Vondar and I didn’t see much but Miss Daisy and Mister Junastro said it was mostly kobolds like in Kundar and they had a sort of chain going all above the village with things hanging on it and moving around. They were getting ready for a festival. After dark Miss Daisy turned into a bird and went to look again and she saw the Duchess who was a pink teafling with a teal suit and Miss Daisy thought she was cute. She did sound cute how Miss Daisy described her but when I saw her later I didnt think so. And she saw Bastion as well, he was a big vampire bear man. Anyway Junastro went back into the village at night while we were asleep and when Ma found out in the morning she was annoyed with him and with Miss Paw for letting him go and not telling anyone.
The next day Miss Daisy and Miss Paw did some more meditation and the land told Miss Daisy where Bastion was. I don’t know if it told Miss Paw anything. So Ma made a sharp wooden stake and we went to the place which was a cave and Mister Ori made a little owl called Ibis who went inside to look around. Bastion was in there asleep and there were some minotaurs. Did you know Ma fought a demon minotaur before? She’s very tough. So everyone decided that Mister Ori and Mister Junastro would go invisible and sneak in and kill Bastion with the stake and then everyone else would go in and fight the minotaurs. Ma made me wait outside in a hollow tree where there were lots of funny bugs so I didnt see the fight but it was pretty quick and Mister Ori came out with a big axe and a little ring he said was magic. Ma told him to lend it me and he did even though I don’t think he really wanted to but he’s okay really he just thinks a lot and gets stressed. Ma looked quite hurt but she got better. Then Mister Ori’s ring went blue and he said sorry he had to go and just disappeared. That was a bit of a surprise which is funny because I wasnt surprised by anything else that happened on the trip even if I didnt specifically know it was going to happen but it all made sense with the knowing about the vampire and everything that I had but this was odd. The others were really worried because Mister Ori knows a lot of magic and also knows everything about vampires so we were hoping he was going to be really helpful for fighting the Duchess but Ma asked me and I thought about it and I knew it was still possible so I said that. Everyone looked at me weirdly and Miss Daisy said my eyes went gold when I said it.
Anyway the others decided to carry on so we all went to the Duchesses castle which is called Donsend. It’s on a cliff and there’s a waterfall and there was a side door in the cliff with a blue dragon lady standing outside but Mister Junastro thought it was an illusion so he got rid of it and we went in that way. There were complicated stairs that were dangerous but we went up them okay and there were lots of corridors and three more of the illusion lady who said she was called Vorthia. She tried to fight us and then she went invisible and Miss Daisy turned into a giant scorpion which was amazing and a bit scary. There was a storm in one of the corridors too. I was helping Ma choose the right crossbow bolts and sort of thinking at her where to shoot them so she did really well and we beat the dragon lady.
Then we were in the castle. It was very big and grand, it looked like everything cost a lot of money. There was music so we followed it and found a door and Ma went sort of hazy and disappeared, then she came back and told us what was on the other side of the door. It was really clever but I hope she never does that to secretly check if I’ve made my bed. She said the Duchess was in there and the cat person from before was playing a sort of piano that had lots of pipes and made a big loud sound. Someone else said that’s an orgun. And she said the Duchess was in a chair near a big window with the waterfall outside so everyone decided to try to push her out of the window into the water and the light. Sunlight and running water hurt vampires you see. Vampires can also make you like them if they look in your eyes so Ma did a spell so the Duchess couldnt do that to her and Miss Daisystabbed she was still a scorpion and she blind used her claws to pu make it so she couldn’t see any more. It seemed like it hurt a lot. Miss Daisy is really tough. I didn’t like seeing it though.
Anyway they all went in and I was going to come too but Ma told me to wait outside the door and she was being very serious so I did. But I looked in. Ma shot the window and broke it and Mister Junastro went invisible, he was meant to push the Duchess through the window but it didnt quite work. The Duchess got up, she had blood all over her mouth and she threw her chair at Miss Daisy and shouted at us. She was really fast and strong. Everyone started fighting her. Miss Paw was throwing little sharp things and Ma was shooting and Miss Daisy turned into a tree lady and I couldn’t see Mister Junastro but sometimes the Duchess would get cut like with swords. Then suddenly there were bats everywhere, they came all round me and they were trying to bite me but the acorn protected me but it was still frightning. People were shouting too, then the Duchess was there running through the bats at me. I heard Ma shouting I think she hurt the Duchess but the Duchess kept coming. She tried to grab me but the acorn kept me safe again and then Miss Daisy said something and the Duches exploded into mist and Miss Paw swung her staff through the mist and it faded away.
Everything was okay then, the bats went away and everything. We looked around the castle and found lots of things but I knew I needed to go to one room. There was a gold medalion with a picture of Tymora and when I touched it I knew she was there and she was hin and she wanted everyone to know. She chose me and Ma to let people know. She wants to help Ma be a hero and maybe me too, one day.
Do you believe me? I guess it seems strange. I don’t really know what to do now but I think thats okay, I don’t think Tymora is in a hurry. I need to think a bit. I think we’ll come and see you soon but I’m not sure. But you can tell people that she’s one of our gods if you want. It’s time for people to know.
