OBSERVATIONS & EXCERPTS from the JOURNAL of SECOND ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST ORIANNA ÈIRIGH of ASHKHA
Recently I learned Matches and Zola have been spending time together. After what happened to Vulcanax, I started to See Honey’s face in my dreams. Just small glimpses here and there, always on the edges. I asked my father if seeing someone’s face like that means something. He told me to ask the Cosmos. When I did the Vision was cloudy. There’s too many uncertainties. Too many other events that we need to go through first to see things through.
It was why I asked Matches about the nature of his and Zola’s relationship. If he was in love with her, if he was trying to move on from the loss, again, of Honey I would say nothing. Yet, in the end, I still did not say anything. Part of me — perhaps a future me or the spirit of his love — knew it was not the moment to bring such hope to him. He still needed time to heal…
The reason we were all gathered — Matches, Ninnoc, Yinmaris Iathrana, and Fernleaf — was because Frigus and Waffles were asked by Thalistraza to help with the “Great Hatchling Drive” in The Court of Dragons.
In the Court, there are caves that can facilitate the various eggs of all sorts of dragons to hatch. The younglings need to be led to the palace at the foot of the mountains where Queen Ophelia and Thalistraza will greet them. Our purpose was to help Hugo, the main “baby dragon wrangler”, and Anacostia protect the younglings from “predators” and bring them safely to where they needed to be.
But young hatchlings can be mercurial, getting easily distracted, following their whims. I remember what Valethra was like in those early days. However she was just one hatchling and I had the help of Lucky, Gerhard, and others. We were nine trying to wrangle nearly eighty newly born dragons.
It was SO MUCH FUN. Challenging, but the hatchling’s enthusiasm was infectious and cathartic…
Frigus has been blessed with the voice of Asgorath.
I can think of no one else in the Family who would be worthy of such a blessing. Frigus has such patience, kindness, and temperance to them. I have no doubt that they will sing to many young dragons in their life…
