OBSERVATIONS & EXCERPTS from the JOURNAL of SECOND ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST ORIANNA ÈIRIGH of ASHKHA
Frigus had been told by the Archwyrm Thalistraza the last place she knew where her piece of the nine was kept safely tucked away was in Icewind Dale. They had sent letters out the day before we were due to meet — the other recipients being Digs, Beets, and Amble. We all arrived at around the same time to a delicious spread of cold foods Frigus had been spending most of the morning preparing.
Note: Never accept food from Digs. You never know how long he’s kept whatever food he has in his pocket. Frigus, unfortunately, got food poisoning from being… well, a good host, shall we say. It has been a while since I have had to make use of the Lesser Restoration I keep stored in my spell gem…
Before we left, Digs spoke to Frigus alone. I have… become quite observant. I can pick up conversations and read lip movements for the languages I speak. It was not my intention to eavesdrop. But it happened.
Now, I do not know which part of what I heard is worse.
That Digs, who has only ever spoken in a broken stutter to me, is a liar.
Or that he tried to convince Frigus that they “do not have to work for them”…
I made friends with The Great Oak in Kuldahar in Icewind Dale. This very ancient, possibly once a seed given to the druid circle who planted it by the god Sylvanus themselves, is a useful point to have on the Sword Coast if ever I need to get across the world and my heart is not able to Walk me there.
Over the years, the druids who created this habitable area in the frigid mountains, opened the settlement up to humans and dwarves. In recent years, a wizard — possibly an Archmage? — by the name of Caliban, placed his wizard’s tower in the settlement and between the druids and him, the area is well looked after…
Caliban welcomed us into his tower, offering tea as we explained where the unexpected sand in Kuldahar could have come from. The wizard suggested such a creature — I already knew it was Oria, the First Dune, but I was cautious — would be found on the Plane of Dust or Sand.
He also told us more about the history of the place. The Great Oak was planted by the founding members of the village. Whilst they were planting, a very large, feathered dragon appeared and made roost in a cave nearby. None were sure when she left but sometime later, those who went to the cave were not seen from again.
A strange tale. I am not sure if we will ever be able to find all the details of, as much as my curiosity is piqued.
With the way forward clear, Caliban offered to transport us across the Realms to the Plane of Dust…
Thalistraza met us on the Plane of Dust.
Before we continued on to find her piece she approached Digs, revealing the armour he wears to house the souls of a red dragon, a white dragon, and a blue dragon.
I cannot write down everything that was said but after what I heard before we left, I am no longer sure who it is I am speaking to. The betrayal of my trust hurt the most over all.
But it was not the time to dwell on such things…

Oria had made a clone of Waffles which they then used to attack us!
Frigus was, understandably, confused and upset. Thalistraza was infuriated. We looked on in awe as she manifested four feathers to become longswords and took on The First Dune whilst we fought against “dark Waffles”.
In the end, we succeeded in retrieving Thalistraza’s piece of the nine. As for what it does: It can detect dragon eggs nearby, knowing how long it will be until they hatch, even becoming an incubator…
