OBSERVATIONS & EXCERPTS from the JOURNAL of SECOND ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST ORIANNA ÈIRIGH of ASHKHA
Frigus and Waffles, the silvery-white kobold and his companion dragon Valethra and I had met the last time we went for a stroll and found ourselves in the village of New Hillborrow sent me a hand-stitched letter asking for my help. As it turns out, the Archwrym Thalistrasza had sent him a vision, some form of task that needed doing, and we would need to go to the Court of Dragons to do it. Lucky was another person to receive a special letter, as were Amble and Beets. Our party gathered, it was as simple as heading to Fort Ettin to ask Jenna if she could plane shift us to the Feywild.
That was when inspiration struck me.
She had lost her own dragon companion, Kaltenzan, in the Battle of Fort Ettin the previous year. We were going to a place where there were many baby wyrmlings. Perhaps, if Queen Ophelia and Thalistrasza were amenable to it, Jenna could either adopt another such dragon and keep them in her company. I think, at first, she was hesitant. Such a loss is not easy to move on from, nor could Kaltenzan be replaced by another. But she came and by the time we were leaving the Court to return home, she had a young one nestled deep into her loving arms — Syrup…
Thalistrasza had felt a connection, a light tether which she wanted to test. It could be no coincidence then. The similarities between Frigus — a young kobold who saved a dragon’s egg, who has been raising said dragon as he own “child” — and the Great Mother are too much. I have wondered why Valethra insisted on going for a walk on that day, why it was she was leading me- us to New Hillborrow.
It was to meet Thalistrasza’s Herald…
The other purpose for Frigus’ summons was to retrieve the Protector of Hatchlings’ artefact. A large, permanent, ever shifting snowflake. When the time is right it will lead Frigus to the place where Thalisrasza’s key is hidden…
A Poem for a Mother of Dragons, as recited by Lucky

A Poem for a Mother of Dragons, as recited by Lucky
Great Mother, protector of hatchlings, before whom I am nothing but nothing
In the gloom of the deepening night take up my heart and play with it as you list
Bind me close to you with nothing
I will spread myself out at your feet and lie still
Under this lighthouse i will meet silence with silence
i will become one with the night clasping the earth in my breast
Make my life glad with nothing
The rains sweep the sky from end to end
jasmines in the wet untameable wind revelling in their own perfume
The cloud-hidden stars thrill in secret
let me fill to the full my heart with nothing but my own depth of joy
Like every dragon child,
My soul is alight with your infinitude of stars
Your world has broken upon me like a flood
The flowers of your garden blossom in my body
The joy of life that is everywhere burns like an incense in my heart
And the breath of all things plays on my life as on a lullaby of strings
Yet let all these things come to those with nothing before you
Great Mother, before whom I am nothing but nothing
In the gloom of the deepening night take up my heart and play with it as you list
Bind me close to you with nothing
I will spread myself out at your feet and lie still
Under this lighthouse i will meet silence with silence
i will become one with the night clasping the earth in my breast
Make my life glad with nothing
