From Tasar’s diary.
I followed up the notice regarding the animal expedition. Since I’ve arrived at these new lands my money is dwindling fast and the pay seemed to be good. On top of that, the opportunity to study these weird beast surely would be interesting.
When I got there, there were also a few other people interested in taking up the offer. Frug, a rogue, who presented himself joking that his name sounds like "frog". There was also a barbarian named Gorstag. Oh and a halfling bard who starting banging his drums when I tried to talk to him, I later learned his name was Elric. We were met by a noble kobold, Kilan, who would be helming the expedition. Apparently, he is family related to Gleepo, the rich entrepreneur financing the whole thing, so my guess is we should also make sure he returns alive if we’re to be paid. Kilan brought with him a little entourage, which wasn’t clear to me if they are on his payroll, or if they were to be participating from the benefits of the expedition. Those were Luxo, a human cleric; Pinclu, gnome biologist, and two dragonborn fighters, called Yish and Gless.
The reward would be 50gp for a mate of medium size animals, 100gp for large, 200gp for very large, and likewise, 25gp for small. The reward was slightly less for single animals.
We went to the Tolomak islands, which actually looked like just one big island split in half by a relatively thin strip of swamps, going north to south. Then, we found also a smaller volcano island north of the main island. There are also a few other small islands here and there, but nothing that would catch our eyes.
We disembarked in a beach on the north-east part of the island and we quickly established contact with some small beast that referred to themselves as goldings. They brought us back to their village, about three hundred population. There were abundant signs of gold in the village and were told the gold comes from the river. They invited us to some meat. We discovered later that the meat was actually from goldings, but we were reassured that it was feral goldings… Gorstak had my plate. We then met with their leader, who turned out to be one of three sisters who rule the islands. This was Eloise and she agreed to help us if we were to kill her sister, Strada, who lives on the west side of the island. Apparently, her western sister routinely kidnaps her goldings. Also, let’s say she and Gorstag bonded…
We agreed to help her and she sent with us two of her goldings mounting two weird chicken-like creatures. She however also pointed to “the beast”, and elusive beast that lives in the ruins and that hunts down the goldings. The goldings, in trying to appease the beast, continually bring offerings there, anything of value they find, so if we were to slain the beast, she and the goldings would be thankful and we could keep all the offerings.
We went back to the boat and decided that something was shady, so we left the goldings on the boat and went to the small volcano island to talk with the third sister, Sophina. We found her in a small hut near a lake and discovered her house to be full of clay-like human shape walking creatures. We talked with Sophina, who’s blind and uses the clay creatures to see. She told us not to interfere between her two sisters, and that Strada was probably very well guarded now as Eloise had recently attempted to murder her (no surprise here!). She offered us another deal, go to the arena in the ruins of her old civilisation, and get some clay for her, which she says has magic properties and is what she used to create the clay creatures.
We went back to the main island, near the ruins, and decided to make the first stop at the known location of the beast. In the way there we easily subdued a pair of giant crabs and caged them. They were male/female and of medium size.
When we arrived at the known area of the beast, there was a dense fog. Frug went ahead to investigate, and a few moments later we heard a small yelp. We ran to the place just to find a pit, and below it, we saw Frug being attacked by a wolf-like creature. We fight and defeated the beast and found some nice treasury there. I got myself a very nice serpentine magic dagger. In the pit was also a dark pool, and we were investigating the nature of it, Frug just went and swam in it! He’s going to get in serious trouble some day. That pool makes me uneasy, I sense a magic presence there that is beyond my abilities. However, it looks like it has been discharged, and should be safe now. I think however there is some magic remaining there and that whoever has set this up, could come back and re-activate it. We are making camp here, so we should make sure to keep a proper watch and make sure no one can get near the pool.
