An Important Timeline for Archie
- The strange plague spread fast in our village and then to the neighbouring ones.
- The mountain born; the goliaths and dwarves did not succumb to the illness quite like the humans and halflings did. The elven and gnome communities were seemingly immune.
- My dwarven friend from the Vultan Clan Crafters first alerted my family to the troubles in the village, when he came to the family manor.
- The less affected races offered as much aid as they could. Elves and gnomes attended to the sick.
- The goliaths of Iron Mountain guided many villagers to start new homes up in the mountain, where it was assumed that the mountain air prevented transmission of the unnatural disease.
- The dwarves crafted day and night whatever was requested of them.
- Mother and Father, in their capacity as cleric and wizard, as well as their station as noble-born did what they could to reduce transmission of the disease and best aid those who were infected.
- Though young, I was allowed to assist my father’s wizard colleagues in investigating the mysterious plague. They concluded there was something unnatural about it. Something arcane.
- Many people had their lives unfairly cut short during this period, and families said goodbye to members before they should have had to.
- My own father passed first in my family. Mother did all she could, but even her divine magic, as demonstrated with the rest of the villagers, wasn’t always enough. Nor were my father’s plans to limit the infection growth. Mother passed soon afterward.
- The plague started to disappear soon after my parents’ passing.
- It took time, but eventually the villages re-populated. Although, some survivors had taken to living permanently up on Iron Mountain. But, tragically, many, who did not wait for the goliaths to guide them to hospitable locations on the mountain, died not from the plague, but from exposure and cold.
- The Vultan Clan Crafters, who were helping the clerics and wizards with their craftsmanship, suffered many losses to the mystery plague, in excess to that of the local dwarven population.
- The goliaths of the IronStrong Company of Iron Mountain, who helped the Vultan Clan Crafters suffered deaths above their total population numbers too, but fewer than the dwarves. They put this down to their physical strength and strong constitution.
- The family home passed to my dear sister, Elsie, eldest amongst us, and she runs the estate to this day.
- My eldest brother, at the time of the plague, was following our mother in her calling as a life cleric of Lathander. Mother would be proud of Theodore today.
- At the time of my parent’s passing, I had been accepted into a prestigious wizard college.
- My younger, more charismatic brother, was pursuing a profession with an entertainment troupe. I am told by Elsie that Montague is something of a success, but despite his apparent fame, is loath to lift his fingers from the family purse strings.
- During my arcane studies I took to the Order of Scribes, and in my spare time read far and wide, not uniquely on arcane matters, but on a variety of topics too, such as; history, medicine, nature and religion.
- The mystery arcane plague appeared to have a greater effect on the shorter lived humanoids, and there were some protective effects from the mountains, or so it seems.
- I spent many years studying what I could about different humanoid anatomy, and reading far and wide on the subject of medicine and arcane healing, although sadly I was not divinely blessed like mother and Theodore, and as such have little direct experience with divine healing.
- Despite my extensive reading, I could not discover why humanoid lifespan’s vary amongst the different ancestral races.
- My experience with the mystery plague has shaped the man I am today, and although I have escaped its ruinous grasp, who knows when and if it will strike again.
- Sadly, I have not escaped the comparatively rapid ageing of the human race. In fairness, I am blessed to have lived longer than mother and father.
- But, as I advance in age, I wish so much to be able to provide a cure for all plagues, and discover the secrets to ageing, so that I may extend the lifespan and healthspan of us humanoids that are not so long-lived, and prevent any untimely diminution of life.
- Daring Academy on the continent of Kantas is said to pioneer many new arcane matters. My closest friends are already in the capital, Daring Heights.
- It is perhaps in Daring Heights that I will discover the key to short lived humanoid longevity, and a cure for arcane plagues.
- In my time in the Dawnlands, and in particular, Daring Heights, my arcane repertoire has expanded considerably. The Dawnlands Wizard Club brings me great joy!
- I have studied with Fanwen Silvervein, an earth-genasi, and owner of Silvervein’s Oddities, Antiquities, and Tinctures. Fanwen has helped me become proficient in herbalism; I am now capable of creating healing potions. He has also helped me become proficient with alchemy (in addition, poisons) and combined with my knowledge of the arcane, I am hopeful of becoming proficient in making potions of longevity, vitality and a host of other arcane substances that could help extend humanoid health and lifespans.
- I have been funding my research with adventuring work.
- I have learned the Contingency spell, a tough spell to master, and one that increases my survivability during adventuring work.
- With my progress in spell learning, I am confident I will master the Clone spell and, dare I say without arrogance (perhaps some), the Wish spell. The Wish spell will make funding my research considerably easy.
- Through my adventuring work, unfortunately, I have had the misfortune of rapidly ageing six years by travelling to and from the Plane of Time. Chronomancy is the most unforgiving of arcane schools!
- I must discover the recipe and ingredients for potions of longevity as soon as possible!
