Beets, Raine, Nessa and Archie limp up to the market notice board, bandages and burns just fading away. They shuffle awkwardly, debating rewriting the announcement before they post it. The final doc reads: "Having held back the forces of Hell stylishly but perhaps foolishly the Four Horsemen of Incompetence have saved a paladins sword from the cold undead hand of the... well the death knight that rode out from Hell wielding it in an attempt to destroy the temple of Wakeen." A few lines have been scribbled out followed by: "The sword has many fine features - mainly designed around killing people. There are some complications. As the temple of Wakeen remains threatened, the Four are keen to find noble hearts rather than deep pockets. Please present your arguments as to why you are worthy, interesting or otherwise ideal to wieldy this frankly impressive and potentially risky weapon*. A potion wouldn't go amiss either. Deadline for submissions Friday 16th. *We are fairly certain the death knight is dead... but it is a death knight..." www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/7970473-avarice

A short human women in her mid 50’s approaches one of the horseman in whichever bar they frequent. She has spent the day walking around the taverns of Daring Heights looking for someone connect to the note, which she holds neatly folded in her hand.
‘Hello, Susan Bland, pleasure to meet you, thank you for taking the time. I thought I would let you know my son Tim might make a good custodian for that sword you mention in this here note. A noble heart sounds very grand and special and while I love my son I don’t know whether I could say he qualifies, but he is a good boy and seems to be trying his best. He spends a lot of time training at Fort Ettin preparing to defend people when they need him. He doesn’t have much gold as he’s just spent a small fortune on armour for Stephen, Stephen’s his best friend, oh and a horse, that’s probably important. But I know he’d be very grateful.’
She realises she’s unloaded a little and takes a small step back.
‘Anyway George and I thought it was worth a day to come and ask whether you might consider him as a good home. We’re hoping it might keep him safe when he goes out on his adventures.’
She slightly awkwardly stares in silence. Then bobs slightly, smiles awkwardly, looks at her feet and then leaves.
‘Have a lovely day.’

The rider bows their thanks and says - "we are all meeting on the 16th. Thank you for your honesty. We will all vote then."

Susan is joined by George as she comes to the three headed dragon to meet with whichever rider agrees to deliver the sword. Like her, he is short, greying and dressed conservatively. His shoes are well polished but keen eyes would spot the signs of Susan's handiwork mending small rips in his now slightly dated 'best' jacket. His skin is a little darker than his wife, and the bags under his eyes significantly deeper but there is a gruff smile on his face as he greets those he knows in the town.
Susan approaches as George heads to the bar to buy a small beer and a glass of sherry.
'We wanted to say thank you so much for agreeing to give this sword to our Tim, he's a lovely boy and we'll make sure he practices with it every day. won't we George?'
'huh? oh yes, practice.'
'Yes absolutely, and I know he'll only use it for good. Last week he helped out that friend of yours didn't he George? what's his name?'
'aye, he helped out Damian he did. something about some armour and a curse and maybe a Giant? all seemed a bit exciting for my tastes'
George lights a small tobacco pipe.
'The cake Susan, the cake.'
'Oh yes, the cake.'
Susan pulls a small circular object from her bag, wrapped in red and white checkered cloth.
'I made this to say thank you, its a Victoria sponge. Not as fancy as the stuff that you might get from Paradise Frost, but it does for us.'
'Aye, still don't know who this Victoria is though.'
Susan rolls her eyes
'George'
'Yes dear'
'Anyway, thank you riders, you've really made our day, and hopefully Daring Heights and the Dawnlands much safer with our Tim able to help even more people out. If you ever need a cup of tea, come to Ironwood Alley and ask for us.'
They finish their drinks and carefully pick up the wrapped sword. George opens the door for Susan on the way out and they take their time strolling back through Daring Heights to their home before writing to Tim in Fort Ettin and asking him to come home for the weekend as they have a nice surprise. Susan will cook her famous lamb stew.
