It has been a long five months since Kavel has been to the Damphenite Tangle, since he has seen Nathalie.
Every day they speak. Twenty-five simple words. Twenty-five limiting words.
It has not been easy to be so restrained. He has reached peak fitness and strength, why can’t these spells also do more?
Any time Kavel has felt uncertainty, he has trained harder, honed his focus, stilled his mind.
Yet his heart breaks, little by little.
It is not the mountain ahead to climb that wears him out; it is the pebble in his shoe.
But no matter how tall the mountain is, it cannot block the sun.
“Sterel has done it!” Nathalie’s lilting voice rings through Kavel’s mind and he smiles. “She spoke to the Queen and–” She stops herself before wasting precious words.
“Gather friends, come to Summer. This is our chance, Kavel. Let’s take it.
“Love you!”
With those few, precious words, Kavel feels he can finally conquer this final mountain.
