The Mark
Captain Backstabber. Turns out this pirate gang has been robbing a number of others out of Port Ffirst.
And, as it turns out, they robbed Ms. Simone a while back.
Maybe this is a good chance to get back what they took from me so many months ago...

The Plan
Well, let's see. We'll start by...
The Crew
- Dulgrun Stonefeast
- Vox Inzabash
- Amble Brockskin
- Lolli
- Wil Frozendagger
Points of Interest
A. The mast of the ship, Disaster.
B. A loose board on the deck of the ship. Perfect for stashing something...
C. The brig of the ship.
D. The quarters of Captain Backstabber.
E. The vault of the ship. Our target.
The Result
- We boarded the ship where it sailed in the sea. The crew was suspicious of us, but Vox was able to convince them that we were part of the Port Ffirst port authority, and that we needed to inspect their ship.
- Wil walks to the helm to speak to the helmsman. Apparently the captain, Captain Backstabber, set the course - outside of the known trade routes.
- Our party spoke about next steps, which caught the attention of the ships' crew. Our explanation fell short this time, though, and Vox, Amble, Lolli, and Wil are escorted to the brig. I was able to evade their notice, and as planned, I sequestered their gear beneath a loose floorboard for later.
- I sneak below decks to the brig, and I'm able to break out Amble. Vox breaks themselves out. There's an arcane eye keeping watch over this part of the ship, and Amble creates a minor illusion to block it out. It flickers, though, and the eye catches a glimpse of us.
- Captain Backstabber emerges from his quarters, and his scimitar emerges from its sheath. Vox and I are able to talk him down, though, using the same excuse we used on the deck. (Luckily the lines of communication are poor here at sea.) As inspectors from the Outcasts, the group that has chartered this ship, we need to look at the cargo to ensure it is present and accounted for.
- As we walk, Lolli detects something. A Plane Shift.
- The Captain takes us to the vault. How he unlocks it is unclear, but soon we are all sealed in it with him. The cargo within is filled with gold and jams. It appears our friends from WRENtown have run a job of their own, convincing these pirates that the jams are priceless.
- Vox hands the Captain a letter from Mr. Mace. It freezes him in place, as punishment. They proceed to don a disguise and the captain's hat, coat, and sword. Vox intends to walk us out under the guise of being captain.
- Amble summons a number of horses to help us carry the bounty out of the vault.
- We return above decks to find the ship now in the Underdark, in the Glittering Sea. A floating fortress stands before us, the final destination for our own ship. Time to get going. I grab everyone's items and hand them back out.
- Lolli spots a cloaked figure coming up from behind us. They're hands are waving, and a gigantic storm cloud begins to come into being above our heads. With a wave her wand, Lolli counters it entirely.
- Amble and his Owl had been keeping watch this whole time, and our allies are sailing just behind us. We run to the bow of the ship to try and avoid our assailants who have now determined that Vox is not the Captain. Spells begin flying all around us, but Lolli planned for this - she conjures an Arcane Gate, and we step through onto the deck of the friendly ship.
The Takings
After we unloaded the horses, we found that we had gotten away with:
- 3300cp,
- 8000sp,
- 4500gp,
- 190pp,
- And 5 different art pieces, each depicting a different maritime scene.
Lolli refused compensation, although she was the only reason we were able to escape intact. I shall remember that in the future - the debts I owe her seem to be accruing at a rapid pace.
Rux will be pleased to hear that the score was so large. I think this might rival some of the takings that they had when they were in their prime! I may need to watch my spending around Yom, though. I am sure a few nice bolts of cloth and some new makeup won't be too obvious, though...
A rumour arises in Port Ffirst, and spreads quickly across the Dawnlands. Nobody knows where it originated, but everyone has heard it.
The rumour tells about a gambler. Nobody knows their face. Some say it’s a charming half-elven girl, others argue it’s a bulky male dragonborn, a few insist it’s a witty dwarf. The gambler looks innocent enough; some would say deceptively innocent. Playing poker in the Gilded Mirror, or Liar’s Dice at the Flourished Hook. No different from anyone in the crowd, until someone gets an idea to steal from them.
Then the magic begins.
Then the magic begins.
Rumour has it, whatever is stolen would finds its way out of the thief’s pocket, along with everything else they have, to be replaced with a strongly worded note that can stun the addressee with its message. And the money? Why, the money and then some would return to the gambler, and the best the thief can hope for is to find some of their old possessions in the community chest of Wrentown. And the gambler? The gambler would never be seen by the thief again. That’s why they’re called...
