Dear Father,
Please forgive my delay in replying to your last letter. I am heartened to hear that the estate manages well in my absence. My deepest apologies that I cannot be there to assist.
You will be pleased to note that my time here in Daring Heights is being spent well. I have found work tending bar at the best establishment in town, the Gilded Mirror. It's odd, working for money, but it gives me an opportunity to hone my telekinetic ability. And the patrons enjoy the floating tumblers.
My other employment has also taken note of me, thankfully. I am doing my best to heed your advice of patience and restraint. But after four months Thankfully, they had need of my abilities once more. My Steward, Pantos, and another of his kin, Azmodan, called upon me to gather others, and seal another hole in time and space.
I regret that Pantos has not your tutelage in the manners befitting one of high station.
Azmodan is much nicer.
Gerhard was away on business when I inquired, but Orianna offered to come. I ask your discretion when I say I was surprised; I do not think she has much patience for me. She suggested Calla Prim, and between the two we also met with other local adventurers. Digs, Lilia, and Robin.
We met also with Copernicus, who may sound familiar from Gerhard's letters. The pit fiend was a welcome sight, and together we made our way through Nilfheim to the Fountains of Creation, thanks to Orianna and Lilia's work discovering a pool of blood and divining a path forward.
Not my blood, thankfully. Another's, Andromeda, who you also may remember from the same letters as Copernicus. Not to worry - she has been reduced to only a beating heart, but far more is required to kill one of her kind. She will heal, in time.
The Fountains of Creation. You may recall from my previous letter that I was needed last in the Plane of Fire. The rift there was opened by a primordial by the name of Magdara, who makes her home in the Plane of Magma where she had opened another using the aforementioned heart of Andromeda.
In the dim candlelight, Henri turns his head back to his notebook, where a few hastily written notes mark the page of his notebook.
Magdara
Me.
The Staircase's errand boy.
You've fallen once already, haven't you.

Calla Prim
Something in Calla responded poorly to Magdara. It shouted: GET AWAY
(In the margins:) Calla's uncle, The Cartographer. Magdara's cousin. Which element?

She knew much of us, Father. Myself, Calla, and Orianna, in particular.
Gerhard joined us then, thankfully. I ask your discretion once more when I tell you we needed it. He's been given a lot in such a short time. Undeser-
I will not bore you with the details, Father. But suffice to say we completed the task.
There is still more to do, though, which is why I write to you from the coast, here in Port Ffirst. I forgot how much I missed the sea - you would like it here, by the ocean. You may even wish to consider expanding.
I travelled here to see if I can find some answers. Magdara and her family are after something, and they are trespassing on the Staircase to find it.
Maybe if I find out what it is, and have something to take to Pantos, he'll begin to appreciate my service. Maybe I will finally be free to travel.
I await your reply. I will be in Port Ffirst for at least the next tenday, if you have a moment to write. Afterwards I will be returning to Daring Heights to inform Gerhard, Orianna, and Calla of my learnings.
Forgive the length of my letter. I will try to write once more soon, to keep it shorter.
Your faithful son,
Henri
Henri lifts the letter to his face, inspecting the ink for smudges or imperfections. Satisfied, he places it back atop the desk before dusting it to dry the ink and sealing it with a dab of wax. With a gesture of his finger, the letter floats over to the jacket hanging off a coat rack and slides within the breast pocket.
