The little black kitten hefts up the pale wooden box onto his bed, its contents making a slight rattle as he pushes it up against the headboard.
Unable to resist, he lifts the lid to give the inside a final quick peek and the candle light shimmers across a varied assortment… of teeth.
Teeth, of all shapes and sizes.
“Well, time see if the Toothfairy really is real…” the youth states aloud, before he closes the lid once more, and covers it with his pillow.
Laying his innocent head upon the cushion, Mittens falls asleep quickly, without care or worry…
He is not sure how the dreams started, only that he was suddenly in them and frightened.
But the fear was external, not his own.
It came from the others around him, the children who were older, younger, the same age.
They’re trying to tell him something but he cannot hear their words.
Suddenly, there’s an ear splitting scream.
Mittens throws the covers back and leaps from the bed, fully awake and fur standing on end.
Its the darkest part of the night and he is not alone…
