Part 1 - Kythorn 1499, day unknown; Southern Feythorn
Eventually she stirs.
It was the fire that woke her. Intense burning flames that made her feel like she was trapped in the heart of a star. Again.
Opening her eyes, Cassianne involuntarily cries out in alarm and pain as light and heat flood her vision. She instinctively shuts her eyes, throwing a clawed hand up in front of her face.
Claws…?
A loud crash from behind impels Cassianne back into the present. Forcing her eyes open against the glare of the inferno, she tries to get her bearings. Burning wood surrounds her. The smooth worked planks of the ship, but also the tall-standing timber of the encircling forest.
The forest. That was the last thing Cassianne can remember. And the raiding ship plummeting towards its canopy. The Feythorn, her kith'rak had called it.
The flames flare as they catch something in the cargo hold, sending shooting sheets of fire skywards. Cassianne flinches and instinctively her tail curls protectively around her.
Tail…?
Cassianne yelps in panic as sparks cascade down from the incinerating sailcloth above. Lurching to her feet, she glances quickly around for a route to safety. Reeling slightly from her sudden movement, she catches sight of a glint of purple-red light that isn’t caused by the conflagration. It seems to call to her: this way...
She starts to head towards it. A burst of flame causes her to blink. When she reopens her eyes, the glimmer of light has gone. Spinning in place, Cassianne frantically searches for it… There! She darts forward, leaping over a set of glowing, red-hot chains and manacles, the intense forge-heat shimmering up to cook off her scales.
Scales..?
She stumbles out of the wreckage of the ship, her way forward blocked by a ring of burning trees that mark the edge of the clearing into which they crashed. The small hazy light bobs in front of her, her woozy vision blurring as she tries to understand what it is. Cassianne blinks away tears of pain and heat-sweat, focusing on the li- no, the creature floating in front of her.
“Hullo!” she hears as she faints - as dehydration, confusion, and concussion finally overwhelm her.
