Dear Merla,
Sorry for the double letter. I didn’t get a chance to send the first before being dragged into another adventure by my good friend — the ‘chaos lizard’ as she sometimes calls herself — Pipper.
A person by the name of ‘Granny Gunk’ needed help in preventing the Sincere Reformatory from reaching Port Ffirst. Now, this place is unique in that no one could lie whilst within its walls. It was as if the whole structure was under a massive Zone of Truth spell! And the reason Granny Gunk asked for help was, as you might imagine, because Port Ffirst — being a place full of questionable and amoral people — being in the direct path a reformatory (it was more like a prison if I’m being honest) like that, it would not only become too full too fast, but I’m pretty sure your friend Menace — the “godfather” of the city — would appreciate not being locked up until he “reformed” (or died). So it was up to Pipper, Levuka, Anåbæl, Frigus, and I to get up to the flying prison, find out what was going on, and divert or stop it.
Which was where we met the warden, Vaui Onova. She and Granny used to be colleagues until Vaui got rid of the humanoid prison guards and replaced them with these tentacle sentries (don’t ask, I don’t know nor do I understand what they were except really creepy). Turns out though that the warden had captured a celestial in order to achieve this “remarkable and reforming prison”. We luckily figured it out just before it was too late. Looking back, there were many signs of something decidedly suspicious about Vaui and the Reformatory.
In the end, the celestial — Albaphanuel, a servant of the god Savrus — was freed, the prison, which had already been emptied of its prisoners — they escaped — fell into the sea, and Vaui managed to escape us. I don’t know what kind of punishment we could give her because on one hand, she was trying to do good for people who clearly needed some kind of reform… But the way she was going about it was not right. Imprisoning another was not the way to do it, in my opinion.
Who knows if we will cross paths with her again. She seemed very vexed at us, but she has also lost everything. My hope is that she realises what she did and chooses to better herself as she tried to see others do the same but… I’m not convinced enough that will be the case.
But enough about me! How are you? Summer is here already, can you believe it? Anything big happening in the Court of Harmony before the Solstice?
Love,
Marto
