Uninspiring. That was the word. The big Turn The Dawnlands To Chaos had resulted in Turning The Dawnlands To Being Slightly Concerned.
Calling in a favour with Gerbolt to rally the Xvarts and start raiding caravans had been a great move. Unfortunately Gerbolt, for all of the Nycaloth’s tactical genius, had ended up having more fun messing with the Xvarts - putting them in balloons and catapults - than actually fielding a strong military force. When Gerbolt finally recomposed himself in the Hells, words would be had.
The gnolls at least had the populace scared. People were genuinely afraid of the Gnolls That Got Back Up, and sourcing an undead beholder to lead and empower them had been no small feat. Still, some magic here, a favour there, and it was amazing what was achievable. It was also amazing that the Death Tyrant too had lasted mere seconds in the face of the Dawnland Adventurers. It was maddening.
That kobold that Kanudor sent was interesting - economic chaos had been moments away from eating Port Ffirst from the inside out once those merchants had started panicking. But again, the adventurers were quick, and they were relentlessly effective. Panic didn’t spread beyond a few people before the news of Hyacinth’s arrest spread even faster.
Weirdly, just dumping a wagonload of imps in the middle of Daring Heights had been perhaps the biggest success. People screaming, genuine pain inflicted. It was short-lived, but at least there was a little more tension in the heart of the city now. They knew they could be hit, even there. It had been worth dealing with that fey witch after all, and she'd gotten much more promising work done as well.
So 1 out of 4. Maybe call it 1.5 if we’re being generous. But the Council was onto the scheme now - they knew someone was plotting against them. At least dropping that symbol absolutely everywhere had had the desired effect. They needed to know the Dawnlands had a target on its back.
Still, it was only a matter of time now. This couldn’t hold up forever, they’d figure it out soon. The wrong spell at the wrong time was all it would take, and this was a land replete with archmages - so many eyes to avoid. It was time for the big finale. Something to make the Dawnlands shake to their core - no mean feat when they’d fended off multiple invasions already.
Nearly ready. Just a few more days… and great and glorious revenge would finally be had. It was so long overdue, after all.
