THE POISON POINT MURDERS
15th Day of the Melting, 1500 D.R.
Suspect is an air genasi young adult of ambiguous gender, a member of a breakaway enclave of the sewer druids of Port Ffirst.
Suspect was apprehended by investigators hired from the adventuring community approx. 500 yards from where the 10th victim was discovered, near the Cavernous Seashank tavern.
Suspect attempted to kill one of the investigators and tried to flee the scene. Suspect was subdued and brought to the watch station in an unconscious state.
Items found on the suspect’s person match the description of the murder weapon used on all victims: wooden darts and a neurotoxin extracted from fungal sources.
Additionally, the suspect was wearing a wooden mask painted with the same three-pronged symbol that has been graffitied by vandals on various business establishments around town.
The hired investigators also reported seeing an unknown aarakocra person watching them bring in the suspect to the watch station from a distance.
Hired adventurer investigators:
• Leif Tingle
• Vox
• Thurghor
• Rae
• Name unknown, alias “Crow”
Hirees were rewarded with 120 GP each and 2 unclaimed items from the “lost-and-found” box.
TRANSCRIPT OF INTERVIEW WITH SUSPECT
Conducted on the 15th Day of the Melting, 1500 D.R.
Recorded and witnessed by Night Officer George.
TRANSCRIPT BEGINS.
CROW: Why did you do this? Did you work alone?
SUSPECT: Indeed, this mission was mine to work alone, I’m good with poisons. But of course, you have to refine them with a few tests.
THURGHOR: Who sent you on this mission?
SUSPECT: Nature did. It’s fed up of being put in the shadows by this sprawl of civilisation and its people.
TINGLE: I can see how much you value all things Nature. I share that love. I’ve lived in and around the beauty of New Hillborrow for as long as I can remember. I’m curious, how did Nature communicate with you to kill these people? I’m just a little surprised, is all. Many Dawnlanders have fought and died to protect the land; the Feythorn and the Angelbark in particular.
VOX: If nature is out of balance, then the very people you killed may be your best bet at fixing it. Adventurers are not beholden to any one society, many choose to remain in or near Nature. And I can’t think of one that wouldn’t fight to protect it. You’ve snuffed out the lives of those who choose to help. Please tell us your cause, what message you’ve received. If there’s something we can do, we’ll help. But the killing has to stop.
SUSPECT: You misunderstand. There is no written message or order. Nature’s message is to be seen in the way it retreats — it’s what is not there. Sure, some of you are better than others just because you appreciate it, but that doesn’t change what your influence and services to these places has done as a group. You are a useful resource that have helped these foetid towns grow. And will continue to do so. Sure, I can promise to not kill, my work is done anyway.
CROW: What was the point of your work?
SUSPECT: I told you, to test out some poisons. What? You think I’d just tell you everything with some nice words?
THURGHOR: Are you one of the sewer druids then?
SUSPECT: No, I’ll give you that, but we have differences in views with Vitex’s teachings, and so we split. We are our own circle.
CROW points a finger at the SUSPECT’s mask being held in RAE’s hand.
CROW: What’s that symbol mean?
TINGLE: Is it an onio—
SUSPECT: It can be whatever you want it to be. Onion is a new one, though. Could kill for some onion rings right now. Oh wait…
TINGLE: I could make you some onion rings, if you like? Anyone else feeling peckish?
SUSPECT: Nah, you never know what’s poisoned around here.
