Hi all,
Just so it's written down somewhere, here's how levelling up works. Play X sessions, you level up. Table below, and in the Kantas Player's Guide pg 27.
Current Level Sessions Played Level Up To Level 1* 2 2 2 3 3 3-8 4 4-9 9-15 5 10-16 16-19 6 17-20
*Level 1 is optional.
So you reach level 7, for example, at the end of your 21st session.
Edit (June 2021): The thread below has some FAQs about levelling, as well as some player-made tools to help you keep track of how many sessions you've played with your PCs. You also have the option of using Avrae (the Discord bot) to keep track for you by logging sessions. Check the pinned messages in #Kantas-General for the right commands if you want to give that a try! Or write it down somewhere in a special notebook. To each their own đź’ś /Lykksie

88 Sessions to go from 1 to 20... imagine getting a TPK at session 87, I think I would cry...

Question for DMs. How does leveling up work if you have multiple characters? After you've played in a session, do you add 1 point to both (all) characters or only to the one you've played with? Also, when you already have a character of high-ish level, do you start every new one from level 1 or no?

Of what I'm aware, last time this was discussed was: 1. When you start a new character, that character can be any level you like between 1 and (X-1), where X is the level of your current character. 2. They level up independently. You need to play a character to level him up.
(I guess you could argue, if you can start at level (X-1), if you choose not to, then the leveling up to (X-1) could be up to you. And I would agree... so not really sure what the rules are on this second point xD)

That's right. We've left it pretty open for starting new characters. I'm happy for you to make a new character anywhere at a lower level than you. From that point though (unless discussed and agreed otherwise) they level up normally and independently of each other.

Incidentally, if it's any help to anyone, I made this table to help me keep track of Taffeta's levels – feel free to copy / adapt for your own use.

Does DMing count for leveling up? 1 game DMing = 1 game as PC? Or no?

That is going to come in extremely useful.

DMing does count if you wish it to, yes.

What’s the rationale behind the X-1 rule?

X mission -> 1 lvl rule, is a way to simplify the life of DM and players.
If you use XP for difficulty kill and/or mission difficulty, DM and players will have a lot more to track for example: - Did I kill that creature alone or in a group? - if my character is more Charisma based, and I avoid mostly conflicts, how will she evolve in some scenarios - DM will need to decide how much XP each creature (if is a custom made) should give - DM will need to decide how much XP should give a mission (useful if the mission you avoid conflict)
