There it was the clifff edge!, the squad's salvation, just a little further Ramsy couldn't help but grin as he fought to catch his breath adrenaline still surging through him. He knew it would work! he knew he was strong enough to make the opening. He whipped his head around blood and sweat flicking from his hair ready to let out a victorious warcry.
The scene that met his eyes however was far from victory. Charred and blackened Bodies lay strewn across the blood-soaked ground. The only way Ramsy could identify the bodies was from the metal of their swords and armor; a spiked war hammer was still gripped with two hands though neither was attached to the body anymore, Blake had always said he’d die before giving it away. A bull-horned sigil could still be made out on another's shoulder pauldron, though the wearer's facial features were reduced to nothing but a scorched skull, Ramsy awestruck could barely muster the courage to whisper “Klay?”.
Everywhere he looked his vision was met with fresh horrors of his fallen comrades until finally, he saw movement, a body pushed its weight onto a flat pointed executioners sword, clothing singed, face a bloody mess but the medallion of the god Helm hanging from the hilt of the sword could be seen clear as day. Ramsy snapping out of the fugue state rushed over, his feet felt weightless on the scorched earth. He immediately tucked himself under his brother's arm. As soon as they connected Ramsy felt Leto go limp. “Leto… Leto we’ve got to move come on!” he cried as he dragged him toward the cliff edge eyes scanning around for any possible threats, which is when he noticed oddly there weren’t any. “Where did they go…. There were at least a dozen of them” Ramsy voiced aimlessly, “After you charged off ahead, one of them through the largest fireball I’ve ever seen we didn’t see it coming until it was too late” Leto coughed clearly struggling to put the sentence together. Ramsy looked around at the hell-like scenario and couldn't help but feel immense guilt. “They were following my orders… this is my fault,” Ramsy said voice hollow, Leto snapped back at him “Cut that out, there will be time enough for blame late…” cut off mid sentence Leto's eyes went wide.
Suddenly Leto’s back lurched as he let out a cry of pain falling to his knees bringing Ramsy down with him. Ramsy’s head whipped around to see a chain embedded in Leto's right shoulder just between his armor plating, the end of which disappeared into the smoke behind them. Emerging from the thick smokescreen a silver gauntleted hand held the end of the chain firmly like a dog handler holding the end of a leash. Ramsy eyes wide with fear and anger. He instinctually reached where the chain had entered and tugged trying to pry it free yet the chain did not budge. Desperately Ramsy seized Leto's sword from his hands and began striking at the chain tears beginning to gather in the corners of his eyes… the chain would not break. As Ramsy brought the sword down a third time the chain shuddered, relief flooded Ramsy but as the shudder stopped the chain pulled taught as the chains wielder began to drag Leto toward him.
In a final act of desperation, Ramsy gave up on the chain and instead moved toward the cliff edge grasping his brother's hand and trying to yank his brother free and over the edge. Leto couldn't help but grimace as the barbed tip of the chain dug deeper into his flesh with every effort from Ramsy, but the futility of the action was clear to see Ramsy was outmatched he couldn't win. Leto’s voice quivered gripping Ramsys hand hard placing something in his palm, “Ramsy you have to let go, take this” Ramsy snapped at him similar to how Leto had just a moment ago “No! we’re close! the edge is right behind me!” Ramsy cried as he strained to pull Leto toward him to no avail, the chain simply pulled tighter with every heave. Leto forcefully summoned a reassuring smile as a single tear dropped onto his cheek “You were always more optimistic than me brother”, his smile turned to a sterner look “But there’s no point us both dying because your too stubborn to recognize what must be done” and with that Leto sunk his teeth into Ramsy’s hand that clenched his wrist. Before Ramsy could reaffirm his grip Leto pulled free from his grasp tumbling backward into the smoke and catastrophe awaiting behind him while Ramsy was sent helplessly over the cliff edge, plummeting to the dark water below.
