Diplomatic dispatch from Ambassador Vellus in K'ul Goran:
"To the Council of Daring Heights,
the long anticipated K'ul Goranian Senate election will take place in two weeks time. The election season has been tumultuous, to say the least. The manhunt to apprehend the fugitive Antonia Warborn, figurehead of the reactionary Behooved, has not borne any concrete results yet. More worrying still, a party of Kantasian adventurers assisting Chief Inspector Palaos has recently discovered that the Behooved have gained access to an unknown quantity of weapons that seem to originate from navy stores. The authorities believe these to have been stolen; the alternative - that elements of K'ul Goran's military may be aiding the reactionaries is too unsettling to publicly contemplate, although rumors have been swirling like flies.
Nonetheless, the successful conclusion of the election is the overriding concern at the moment, as a new Senate Leader can hopefully bring new order to the republic and put an end to the divisions and fill the current power vacuum. Given that the election season has been marked by outbreaks of violence, it is unfortunately possible that the election itself may be subject to attempts at interference.
To that end, we have received an invitation from our old ally senator Rhodes for a group of independent election observers; I have it on good authority that this initiative enjoys the support of senator Marius Warborn, leader of the Purists, while the Optimates leader senator Kyra Stuurm rejects what she calls "foreign interference".
I appreciate that the Council has been trying to maintain a neutral stance with regard to the competing Purist and Optimates factions during this election and you have been reluctant to get involved, but it seems clear at this point that the progressive Purists are our natural allies, while the conservative Optimates have made their suspicion of the Dawnlands adventuring community very clear.
Given the Dawnland's vested interest in the stability of our largest neighbor and oldest ally, I hasten to recommend the Council make no delay in approving this mission. The fate of K'ul Goran's republic may very well depend on it."
