And here ladies and gentlemen, a letter discovered in what our archaeologists suspect to be an Orcish war camp found in the mountains to the north east of the ancient prospector city of Daring Heights, now those of you aware of the History of Eastern Kantas will know that many battles took place over the course of several decades while this town was a flourishing hub of exploration and trade. We have pieced together what we can from the note and translated it as best we can from the ancient Orcish it was written in.
“Dearest mother,
I hope this letter finds you well and I do hope that you don’t terribly mind that I send it. I know you never really approved of me taking up penmanship as a hobby, but I have always seen this as an effective and pleasant way to keep track of my travels and to tell of the exploits of our clan back home.
After weeks of travel we have finally made it to the camp, never before mother, have I seen such a gathering of our proud kind! Lead by the mighty Shamog Skinflayer; Axe Grinders and Burning Foots, Orcs and Orogs, even a dreaded Tanarukk… It’s a fearsome beast and seems to stay chained up in a well, I can’t wait to see it unleashed… although I do not plan on being close to it today.
The strangest thing happened today, hence my letter. Things were going as usual, feeding the several hundred wargs, forging arms, schooling the young… when suddenly all hell broke loose, explosions and screams wrang out from seemingly unrelated areas of the camp. It seemed the Burning Foots decided to challenge both the Axe Grinders and Shamog himself simultaneously by letting off bombs in the school on the Axe Grinder war wagon and on in the forge, the damn thing is ruined. Luckily it seems most of the little ones were unscathed, but there is going to be some violence tonight over the war wagon, I bet my teeth on it.
The forge is the biggest problem, I’m writing to you following the clean-up, a lot of our industrial tools are wrecked for good, Grummsh only knows what possessed the Burning Foots to do something so stupid. In the explosion it seems one of our catapults mal-functioned and even the kennels were damaged by the barrel of iron that it vaulted through the air. There are some rumours of a Half Elf being spotted, but I doubt it was real, how would a half elf make it into our camp? An outrageous thought...
I any case mother I hope you are well, we are all very excited here about the big push in a couple of weeks. We are expecting to have well over two thousand troops! And the sooner the better as far as I’m conerned, the sooner we can stop drinking water out of dirty barrels the happier I will be, I think it’s developing an after taste…
Lot’s of love,
Your Gnasty
x”
As said dear guests, this letter was found in a war camp in a time when Daring Heights was faced with regular strife, discovered next to the letter was the preserved body of an orc that we assumed from tissue analysis was poisoned.
Another piece of literature from that time may give us clues to this. Please find a hologram of it here, it will be in both ancient dwarfish and the new common for your pleasure:
“Lyca’s diary entry twenty and three:
Lyca do good today, master says so.
We go north, find orcs, cause trouble, like flees.
Met orcs and orc dogs on way, fight, fight, bite, claw.
Lyca got hurt in fight, but master summon magic of TRI THE RE ON to help Lyka, Master says it’s TRI THEE REE ON, that allowed Lyka and master to meet. Lyka likes being with master so Lyka likes TRI THEE REE ON too.
Masters friends did a lot of talking to Orc they didn’t kill but killed later to find out about Orc den.
We go to orc den but Lyka is told to stay with boring Ranger from town, keep him safe. But master tell Lyka story after, so Lyka don’t mind.
Master snuck in Orc den with friends, he tell Lyca that master and friends placed boom booms around camp and poisoned Orcs drinking bowls, silly Orcs, Lyca would be able to smell poison…
Master mentioned that Orc pack leader called Shamog, he no sound nice, also mentioned a demon orc, Lyka thinks may be a Tanarukk, they originated as orc-demon crossbreeds in the region around Hellgate Keep. However, years of dwelling on Faerûn led to them being regarded as a separate species, rather than simply as a subrace. But Lyka not sure why, master says that these thoughts are gifts from TRI THEE REE ON and that they are divine inspiration. Master also tell Lyka he shot Orc catapult all on him own, master strong, he say shot fell a bit short but Lyka still proud. Not master’s fault he wasn’t able to cock back the launching mechanism enough to provide enough vertical and horizontal force to the projectile to be able to escape the pull of gravity and also provide enough kinetic energy to cause serious damage, I’m sure with enough time and measurement’s master would have been able to use the formula KE=0.5xmxv^2 and saved the day. Master often saves the day.”
This dear guests, as you may have noticed is an excerpt from the Diary of Lyka, the famous philosophical and mathematical treaty, written by one of the most famous members the organisation once known as the Knights of the Chase ever had.
