Nessa rarely receives letters. This one was passed all the way from the Sunset Spines, traveling through Galavir and Stoneleaf, exchanging hands many times along the way. It reads very benign:
Dear Nessa,
Do you remember our trip to the dig site? I certainly do. It's not every day that you get to unearth a thousand-year old artefact! Cleaned it up in the lab - it turned out to be a massive cog! So ornate! But anyway, can you believe it, I got more funding for my expedition! I have hired a research assistant! A real one! Like, they do my catalogues and ask me what to do when they're finished! I'm sorry, I'm getting distracted. Anyway, would you like to come look at the dig site? Maybe you'll be able to stick something else into that strange portal you've found last time? Is that how adventurers do research? Because I can't imagine an ethics committee approval on that… sorry, distracted again. Anyway: mountains, archeology, weird portals. You're in?

Nessa smiles fondly and turns the letter over in her hands. On the other side, a different hand had scribbled two uneven lines with a piece of Sunset stone:
