I can roll with 7 that's fine. I might call it there though and call this party ready to go.

"I will bring the storm (or possibly a light shower or drizzle) to the Orcs who come to Daring Heights! I must needs protect my courgettes [and my stash of knockout spikeweed haze #5] which, er, bloometh ... er ... by thunder!"

Don't worry, we'll figure it out on the day.

One night in the Ettin, after yet another critically acclaimed and sold-out show, Lachlan brings the conversation around to the looming battle. “Shall we share some tactics/thoughts, lads? I’ll start:
- traps around entrances to town/in various places
- barricades?
- defensive thingy around the portal
- that’s all I’ve got. I’m a lover not a fighter”

"Yes, I like the idea of traps. Traps with spikes to pierce orc armor and impale orc flesh.
"Can Ka'sam's Pegasi each with a rider be used to drop fire bombs onto the orcs? I can't help thinking the incendiary devices I'd heard being used recently can offer some value in wiping out clusters of orcs, with their damage spreading over a blast radius? Can the explosive devices be improvised and buried outside Daring's Hope battlements and set aflame somehow when the time is ripe?
"There would be a need for some kind of improvisation from clever and skilled artificers in order to fashion these explosive devices into useful weapons. Also, there must be some shorthand that we could used in order to discuss how we might deploy these improvised explosive devices? Could anyone with greater intelligence than me consider a useful acronym we could use to refer to these Improvised Explosive Devices?
"Furthermore, we have a deuce of catapults. Perhaps these Improvised Explosive Devices (acronym to be determined) could be lit and loaded onto the catapults for devastating explosive effect amongst the orc ranks?
"And in order to maintain the element of surprise of our defences, I suggest a continuous rotation watch of outlier scouts around the perimeter of Daring and Daring's Hope to ensure no orc or xvart spies witness our preparations.
"By the Reverend Mother's beard, let us don our conical thinking hats (I was always awarded one with a big D for "Darn Clever" on it as a dwarfling) to prepare ourselves before the horde arrives!"

Taffeta can definitely help with setting various simple traps – ropes, nets, wires, &c. She doesn't really know the town or the strategic situation well enough to decide where best to put traps so she'll take direction from others on that. She can also help to identify good locations and manoeuvres for anyone who wants to take a guerilla approach: hiding, stalking, striking from a distance. And if any fixtures or places need to be disguised to look like foliage or whatever, she can help with that (within reason – this only really works on the edges of town where natural features are plausible).

As I mentioned, I think an option might be to rig the Portal to blow (if we have explosives) should we all die - think the bridge in Saving Private Ryan.
Are there spots were we can put a decent bowman (AKA sniper), wards we can prime, illusions we can create to fill them into a bottle neck.

Good thoughts. I will say that aurelia can tell you that explosives wont damage the portal. She has spent the last 2 years making it as stable as possible

Best I can do is set a Glyph of Warding at the portal... if any orc or xvart tries to cross it it'll explode... wont stop them but might stall them.

I'm happy to see who is defending the frontlines and if there aren't many people there then I can move games. I'll go where needed! Fyi Dave there are slightly different rules for large battles - I'm taking a look at the link Matt provided should I be needed in the battle to balance numbers (you can still play as Leo)
