Dear Father,
There are celebrations here in the Dawnlands now as the folks here celebrate the coming of winter with a fair. Gerhard didn't share just how bad things had been here just a short while ago - an invasion of Gith and their red dragons nearly levelled the cities, though you couldn't tell by looking. While I was not part of the defence effort at the time, I was more than welcome to attend the fair in the nearby town of New Hillborrow.
There was a circus that I am sure you would have found interesting. The main troupe was attacked during the invasion, they tell me, but this small contingent was still a sight to see. Trapeze artists and weight lifters and a fortune teller that left with a start after giving quite a fortune to one of the other festival-goers, Calla.
There was a musical production, too, that I was asked to help advertise. Strange, the things that they ask of "adventurers" here in these lands. The musical was quite good, too; a re-telling of some of the early days of the city of Daring Heights, and a witch by the name of Granny Longtooth. This would have been a few years ago - she's been long gone.
I'm afraid that I won't be home for Wintershield. I wish you luck in planning the year; remember, Fortune Favours The Bold.
I will try to write again soon.
Henri
The letter folds and seals itself as Henri watches on, sipping on a mug of cider that reminds him of home. The prepared letter floats up in front of his eyes, and he snatches it out of the air.
