hey aurdan

i made it !! all the way to the bottom of the mountain and beyond ,and i made it to a port too !!
it took a while but i'm here !! at the ocean , the sea, the wide expanse !! i havent seen any postings for explorers or sailors yet ,
and none i can take with mountain ranger skills , not that it'd be useful
- not many people have heard of our home town or the hiemal hearts ,
and the terrain is so different i doubted anything that had been drilled into me by them would be useful

well i thought nothing i was taught at that cloister school would be useful down here ,
but do you rememebr that lesson a while ago about revnants ?
this necrotic corrupted spirit creature of an unrested soul ?

i saw one recently , i took my first job as an adventurer in town i walked into one of the most oppulent buildings i've ever seen - marble everywhere ,
and behind the bar was a wall of bottles to the ceiling of assumedly expensive stuff no two bottle the same some glistened and shone or changed colour when poured
- and the people drinking them oh boy ! equally oppulent if not more so ! one of them was an adventurer with a butler - or attendent ,
i cant remember if it was a fancier word to call him by but attendents the fanciest i can remember.

the attendent didnt fight though, just waited on our party member sometimes .
the attendant was pretty normal , the rest of the party all the kinds of people weve never gotten to meet before !!
there was glade who was a dryadic earth genasi druid - a recent adventure had left her branches leafless though i still think rocked the look .
there was also a kobold man named vythe , leonida a tiefling woman , and the employer of the attendant the most dapper looking older tabaxi man ; he even fought in the suit !

we all fought a revenant because of a business man , our employer ,
he had posted a flyer looking for capable people to be body guards for a day
- he wouldnt say what it was about for a long time , so much that leonida talked him up as far as he'd go on money for whatever he was 'withholding',
but it was just as that had all been sorted that muffled grunts came from the big doors of this oppulant room because something was attacking the guards .
it took a moment before it burst in but it was a mangled undead dog shaped creature with flesh and goop hanging off in places ;
it would only ever look at its target and any attakers in melle against it were covered in goop , glade the druid imediatetly turned into an intimidating wolf like creature to attack it
- everything about fighting this thing was gross and nasty and probably something youd have loved if you had come with me ...
but maybe when you are closer to graduating so you can get your graduation trinket.

we didnt know what kind of a creature it was till later ,
our employer a stout guy before explaining anything literally jumped out the window!!
we had to chase him and the creature chasing him just to continue to do the thing we were hired for !! some people even followed him out the window ,
not me though i tried to navigate the building - badly -
i heard the other druid manage to save one of the door guards too -
when we caught up to our employer vythe and leonida laid into him about everything that was going on ;
especially since lucky, the tabaxi, and a few of us had had our memories jogged about the creature coming for its target.

revnents are wronged spirits bound to the world to enact vengence but they only last for 1 year from the time of death ,
the employer really never said how involved he was in any wrongs and im still confused and conflicted , it was the last day of this revenents life cycle,
and we were the only thing between it and its vengence and i had no idea if i was protecting someone whod done something horrible enough to be cursed and deserve it ...

immediately all i had to rely on was the'ranger code the 'tennents' ,
i wish i could have known the truth .. just to know y'know ,
but the business man confused me till the very end to be honest .
though that unfair pledge of helping those in need helped me find a place in my head to try not to think about it ,
the whole thing often made me so fustrated and angry wondering if i was helping a murderer i almost cried

' thaw your heart: give aid , without prejudice
obscure your vices and virtues : do not give what you cannot and take nothing

etcetera etcetera ad nauseum pro bono finite

but vythe and leonida opened my eyes to how soomethings could work down here ,
they demanded more money ad even the employers belongings ,
and it in its own way felt like a way to enact a not very equall justice on both his deciept and that wronged souls issues against him

after we all as a team protected our boss-for-the-night and defeated the revnent we had drinks on him , got extra money ,
and i took an embossed weavers kit and still got a glowing review !!

things are wild!! i promise to write about the next wild thing to happen!!

dear neve

i'm reaaaallly reaallly sorry ,
i know i left at the worst time but it really felt like the only time i could leave,
while everyone older was away dealing with the issue on the mountain .

i left a note! and now i've arrived ,and i wont tell you where ,
and i know its taken me a while to write this letter but i promise i'll keep writing and sending updates ;
and not be silent like some of the others who've gone off on travels !!
and i promise i'll come back and join the order but not right after graduation
- i know as soon a i'd got my trinket theyd force me to enroll and i wanted to see something , anything
...well specifically the ocean , all i'd heard about it was just it was fathomless but it is hard to describe even now ive seen it ....

about the reliquary ,
i know taking my circlet before graduation must be an 'iredeemable' action ,
but truly thankyou i know you mustve helped in its choosing especially with what focci i had foraged
- it has helped me unlock a power that i think taps into that elemental 'affinity' you talked abouut running in the family ;
though i dont think it will live up to the birthmark superstitions...
i dont know what to say about it though , i'll try to describe it but i'm not the best at arcane studies . 

on the arcane studies stuff ,
today i had my first adventuring job and we faced an aberation ? abomination ?
it was a revenant , a medium dog sized one targeting a small small businessman ,
and it had been targeting him for a whole year

all i remember is that revenants are kind of cursed souls who seek vengence for their deaths ,
but we couldnt get much information from our employer,
part of me is still conflicted and fustrated and never wanted to be forced to do what the tennents and oaths said.

so now first time using the tennents of the hiemal hearts anywhere ,
but even outside the mountain range to
'thaw your heart : give aid without prejudice' and so on ,
rules really meant for when you have to save bandits ,poachers and smugglers from bears and blizzards but now businessmen from poweful curses...

i dont know if with what you know about magic and curses and spirits do you know if a revnants target is always deserving of death , or always involved in the death of the person ?

all in all we saved a life ,
and i've taken a glowing reference for my first outing as an adventurer ,
but still dont know the truth ,
and i've tried to recall what i learned but i still dont know , can you help ?
