Sometimes, when nothing seems to be going your way, the best thing that you can do is to remind yourself to get outside and take some exercise - as well as changing things up and going somewhere a bit different than usual.
Amble's exhilarating excursion last week achieved exactly that. Spending some time based at Fort Ettin was exactly what he needed to do to shake of the blues after those false accusations barring him from Work at the Academy ...
No. Best not to think of that.
At least his Work was appreciated in the library here : sorting out the religion section, putting books back in order, and making a little display of winter festival content for adventurers to help themselves to. The end result - very good (20+8+2!)! He feels really rather pleased with himself, as the only difficulty with maintaining his display is the rate at which some of these old books have been flying off the shelves. Some had probably lain hidden, dusty, and unloved down the back of a bookcase for years, but presented in the right context, and with a little cover note by Amble to explain what joys are contained inside - who could resist cosying down with a good novel?! Either that, or there had been a severe run on doorstops recently, but he preferred to think that the former was more likely.
Nevertheless, Amble earns enough to follow his own advice, living a comfortable lifestyle alongside his Work, as well as 25 GP ... and crucially - no complications!
Time for some spell duelling to unwind...
Everbright Amble Brockskin vs. Watcher Peragrine.
'Got to stay sharp', mutters Amble, as he sets off to face his next opponent.
The Opponent : Watcher Peragrine.
A mystical half-orc woman dressed in heavy dark clothing and adorned with many pieces of silver jewellery. One such piece of jewellery she uses as her focus, calling upon the collective power of her coven sisters and deity to rain magic upon her foes.
Outcome : A Narrow Loss
In an unlikely turn of events, some puckish tricks, inspired by last weeks antics almost make it look for a moment like Amble might have the upper hand ... before Watcher lives up to her name, finally getting a read on him, and switching to a more favourable school of magic - Amble having too much fun to do likewise.
A close loss to a competent battle caster like Watcher seems like a good result on balance. Amble takes his additional 9.5 GP earnings and leaves with a spring in his step.
