A Day in the Life of - Clan Crafter Mendal Vultan
“I like to start the morning off with a filling breakfast. Not too much though! But then, what does it matter? I can make up the excess with some exercise later in the day. Often I’m having breakfast with Archie. Kavel doesn’t do breakfast though, but will have a coffee with us.”
“Then, morning stuff out of the way, I either do some tinkering here in the house, which I love, and is good fun if the other boys are around. I can happily tinker away in the workshop, while Archie sits at the desk busying himself in academic work and study. Archie’s tremendously intelligent. Very knowledgeable; on the arcane, on nature, on all sorts of history and religion. Oh yes, he’s very well read! As such, he's best placed to tackle his specialist interest, which is failing to solve the fruitless task of Human Longevity. Ha, ha, Ha! Silly old twig!* Oh, ha, ha that is funny! Oh and if Kavel’s around, he might be doing a spot of carpentry or pestering me to make him heavier kettlebells.”
“Sometimes though I work at various smithies, they bloody love me everywhere, but especially in the Dwarven Quarter - I’m a Clan Crafter after all. Clan reputation naturally precedes me and has value in itself. From time to time I do some cleric shit. But, it’s not terribly important. Far better I spend my time crafting. Moradin prefers that of his Forge flock. Of course I can do ceremonies, and I’m bloody good at those, and healing too. But, if you’re not interested in owning an item crafted by the hands of a Clan Crafter… well… bugger off with you. Go get your regular cleric shit done at the temple of Selune or Waukeen.”
“Anyway. For lunch, I like a nice filling lunch. Not too much though! But then, what does it matter? I can make up the excess with some exercise later in the day. So, I often have a beer to wash the food down with. And then after lunch it’s back to making things better than everyone else does. Ha ha! Chiefly metal items. All sorts of metal items from spoons, trinkets, weapons and armour. All sorts. I’m good at everything. Fantastic really. I really am quite extraordinary, even for a Clan Crafter blessed by Moradin himself. You would think all the Clan Crafter’s were divinely blessed, what with the level of talent we all show. But no. Only very few of us are literally blessed by the divine inventor - me obviously so.”
“I do some late afternoon and/or evening exercise with the half-giant quite often. I do a lot of physical activity when I’m smithing, but rightfully the big stone bastard has me work on recuperative stuff for my shoulders and complementary stuff for my manner of fighting.”
“Do I do much adventuring? I’ve done a little since I’ve come here to Kantas. Not much recently though, no. I was, however, integral to securing the help of the centaurs of Arva, who swept onto the plains around Fort Ettin in the final moments, and brought home the victory for the Dawnlanders. Yes. I did that. Ol ‘Smashy Hands’ goes on about how he helped recruit gemstone dragons in the Court of Harmony. But, gemstone dragons didn’t drive off the Gith invaders. And! If memory serves me correctly, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t recruiting dragons much. He was more busy in the Damphenite Tangle wrestling the locals. Doing an assault with a friendly weapon. Ha, ha! You know, The Tangle’s a chasm, right? So, I could have said, he was more busy ‘exploring the hidden valley’ Hahaha! No, but, he’s got rocks in the head if he thinks he contributed more to the Dawnlands defence than me. Sometimes I think it’s as if someone animated a big stone statue and called it Kavel.”
“Dinner is great, if I’m with the boys or not. We try to have at least one meal together in the house, and one outside as well; every week. Sometimes I eat with friends I’ve made here in the Dwarven Quarter too. For dinner, I like a nice filling meal. Not too much though! But then, what does it matter? I can make up the excess with some exercise the next day, or whatever. And then I like to just have a good laugh with whomever I’m with until it’s bed time.”
*Mendal pauses to laugh for an extended period.
A Day in the Life of - Dr. Archie Haltuhr
“Reading. Tea. Cakes. Study. Scrumptious food and wine. You give me all of these; I’m happy. Perfect day for me. I do try to include all of the above into an average day. However, one must maintain discipline in the pursuit of longevity, and fine wine and dining too often is not conducive to an extended, healthy lifespan. I have Kavel and Kruger to take care of my dietary and physical exercise. ‘Good eating, and Wizard Conditioning’ is the name they’ve given to the health and lifestyle routine they’ve made for me.”
“I try to get in some reading during breakfast before I’m off to Daring Academy to do some studying and the occasional work there.”
“I love a long lunch with members of my Wizard group here in the city. I love having the time to learn a new spell from one of them and discuss the arcane, and they’re a wonderfully, eclectic bunch.”
“Mendal, Kavel and I do try and have evening meals together as often as we can. We manage twice a week very regularly. But, Kavel’s often out on an adventure, and I often lose track of time in the Academy.”
“I could actually do more studying at the residence. Mendal and Kavel constructed for me a wonderful study desk in the workshop. So, we can all be together, as I study, and the two boys labour at more physical work. It’s quite sociable. However, the buggers say they won’t smith or do masonry while I’m studying. But without fail the forge is lit and Mendal has a hammer in hand bashing the anvil while Kavel is chipping away at stone with a chisel! I either switch to spell practice during those moments, or bugger off to the Mossy Mug or the Academy.”
