On a grey day by Kantas standards three adventurers met in the Three Headed Ettin.
The Inn was unusually empty, a rumour of food poisoning and hang overs went around the few present, but not much was thought of this, let’s be honest the occasional quiet day in a commercial/adventuring town like Daring Heights wasn’t un heard of, some would even go as far as saying that 6 days out of 7 half the population seemed to becoming very passive, as if just going through the steps of their respective jobs unthinkingly…
Unsurprisingly, of those unaffected by the apparent lack of constitution, Paladins and Clerics seemed to be the majority.
And so, sitting around a table were Dvärgar Caveforged, Paladin of Tritherion, Barden son of Krakden, the Dwarven Tempest Cleric and Varis Nailo, the half-elf Conquest Paladin.
While sipping breakfast beers and exchanging stories they were politely interrupted by the Sorceress Jenna. The woman, physically advanced but young in spirit told them a tale of woe of how a year previously her doll and through it her youth were stolen by Granny! The girl, for she was but a girl, was in fact only 14 and since suffering this curse of aging had been abandoned by her family and taken in by the Aurelia the portal mage.
As Jenna told the adventurers this tale and plotted with them her revenge, her affore mentioned Guardian made an appearance. She worriedly told them of a darkness rising to the north, some unknown threat to Daring. With patience, Jenna was persuaded to hold on her vengeance… for now.
Setting off North the adventurers went North to the last place orcs were encountered, Dvärgar remembered it well, as they had tried to ambush him during that particular encounter…
After a couple of days peaceful march North, Lyca, Dvärgar’s war dog, made them aware of a band of Orcs to the north, on closer inspection it was determined that not just orcs were coming, but Orogs, Wargs, Xvasts and Xvast sorcerors… this evil alliance was a most inauspicious sign…
Using Jenna’s skills as a sorceress, the adventures hid in plain sight, behind a spell of invisibility. A good idea… if not for the Wargs who sniffed them out in seconds…
Battle was joined in the fiercest of manners, fire filled the sky as the magic casters exchanged bolt after bolt of flaming death, Thunder and Lightning filled the air as the fervent band from Daring invoked the wrath of their gods, bringing down hammer and wrath again and again, slaying Orc, Xvart and Worg alike. Even Lyca, Dvärgars divinely granted war dog leaped from foe to foe, her fangs rending armoured flesh as if it were no more than day old bread.
The only survivor of the offending forces was Ax, a Xvast, who in exchange for his freedom informed the adventurers that his people planned on invading Daring heights with the help of the Orcs to seize “something to bring them closer to their gods”, but what this something was, was unknown to him.
At a similar time, Asva, an old acquaintance of Daring who was also an Orcish scout made her appearance, she claimed, that in exchange for services owed to Daring that she wanted to warn them. The Orcs were motivated only by their love of battle and territorialism, their goal was to destroy Daring in the name of Grumsh their divine patron. She left them with the warning that at their next encounters they would be in battle. She backed away into a small bunch of trees and suddenly ten giant bats took to the air, ridden by her and her warriors.
It was decided a swift return to Daring was called for to report on the worrying turn that local politics had taken. War was coming in one form or another…
