Three Bloody Spectres
By Lord Jaezred Vandree
INGREDIENTS:
• Barrel-aged dry rye gin from the Fields of Summer
• “Dark remembrance” emotion liqueur from the Witching Court
• Ruby Red Cornucopia apéritif liqueur, infused with strawberries from the Spring Court
• Tiorem deigh/dry ice
• Garnish: a sprig of rosemary, burned slightly so as to smoke
AUTHOR’S NOTES:
Dear Miss Leona Autumn,
I leave this recipe to you so that you may freely add it to your newest seasonal menu, but only if you like it enough and if you want to. In my usual recipes, I tend to use ingredients that are available in Kantas and Faerûn so my readers or their cooks can make it at home. However, this particular cocktail is made using rare, quality liquors from the planes beyond — something the fiore popolare is famous for; therefore I thought it appropriate to give this to you and you alone.
This cocktail was inspired by our excursion to the Festerwoods, particularly the tale of the warrior queen, the hunter, and the dark lord who warred and met their demise there — hence the colour of the drink: red as the blood spilled on the warm soil of the woods those many centuries ago. I believe it was the spirits of soldiers of those three beings who attacked us when we were there, melded into one entity and doomed to do battle forever, and thus this drink incorporates three different spirits. I need not tell you that this is a twist on the classic negroni that Lady Oziah is so fond of, and the star of the show here is the “dark remembrance” emotion liqueur, which makes one feel like walking alone through a dark, ancient, misty forest with deep pensiveness. And finally, the dry ice and the smoking sprig should impart a visual image of that same rolling mist, drifting thick and slowly between the trees.
My Lady Imryll and I are excited to attend both the soft and grand reopenings of the fiore popolare. And I am looking forward to tasting whatever you make for my challenge, which I shall restate here for clarity:
Capture moonlight in a drink, literal moonlight. Whether you wish to interpret this as a single drink or a whole menu is up to you. Surprise me. And in return for completing this challenge, you may ask me of one thing — anything at all.
Yours always,
J.V.
