Taking place immediately after What Just Happened?
Co-written with Beets the Beetle
"Beets..." - comes the worried voice of Derthaad.
Beets looks towards Ger, still wearing that peculiar, shaken expression. “Gert..Uh…” Before stopping, unsure what to say…
"It's ok Beets, he... he needs some time and Laurel is way better at helping him than me. Let's... let's go for a walk."
The streets seeming to be a lot quitter than before, the air a lot more still as the pair walk and fly respectively for a bit. Even though it may have been only minutes, they felt like hours, uncomfortably long hours.
"Beets... care to share something? Need help? I'm... here to listen." The voice was as clam and caring as before.
He's not the best with consoling people, but he used this tone when trying to talk to his friends and out of those he talked to immediately after the war, Celina was the one who seemed to have responded to this the best, which he was pleased by. And again, like Gerhard and Celina, he saw a rage boiling up in Beets after someone dear has been taken. And again, he felt responsible to at least try to help.
Beets flutters along quietly next to Derthaad, her eyes down cast and, sad as if lost in her thoughts. The hand that became the monstrous beetle claw held to her chest by the other, the cresent of white scales on the back twinkling slightly in the early afternoon sunlight that shafts between buildings and trees.
Her wing beats stutter slightly as Derts question catches her off guard, causing her to drop in the air just catching herself before she hits the cobbled street, letting herself land with a soft clack of her beetle feet. She turns her head slightly to peer up at Dert with wide unsure eyes. “Well um..”
Beets’ eyes stare up at the figure of Derthaad, broad and tall, calm and patient. Yet the shadows cast by the sunlight put him into silhouette for her, except for the townwatch badge that catches a gleam of light as sits pinned proud on his chest. Beets eyes rest on it for a few moments, before looking up to his dragon-like head with a bitten lip.
He looks back at her, clearly seeing that something is there, being held back. He sees himself, from more than 10 years ago, holding back whatever truth lies buried deep, afraid of being misjudged? He takes in a deep breath, knowing that, as with Celina, he will does not wish to leave an ally alone with whatever is gnawing at her from the inside.
He looks around for a bit, up as well "Wanna go somewhere else? Somewhere with less people?" his voice echoing his concern for his little friend.
A flicker of fear streaks across her face followed by a sudden loud, “NO!” She flits herself back up into the air just above him. “I-I mean ur-“ she continues rapidly, seeing Dert slightly on edge after jumping in alarm from her outburst. “Ug..-OH!” She yawns with a big stretch mid-air, each of her leg segments poppin’ with a sudden loud clack as they flex. “Oh bug am I tired! It must’ve been all that deliverin’ with the Rooftop Beetles!” She rubs her eye before gesturing with her thumb to the rooftops. Think I’m gonna go grab a rooftop nap somewhere-Erg-I mean sleep in a tree-Ugh-I mean in the park-One without the ‘No Standing or Nappin’ on the grass sign! See ya Dert!” And she bolts off skyward.
She flew off so fast that Derthaad had no time to try and stop her. He face palms immediately as he realizes where he screwed up "Of course not, you idiot, why would she want to go somewhere with less people after Orianna has just been kidnapped. You moron!" A small squeak comes from a small gecko atop of Derthaad's head. "Yes, Steve, I know" he says releasing a frustrated sigh while rubbing his brow. "Listen... I'm trying dammit. Not like I've had any experience before... not like I've received any."
"Another time, then. Probably one with all three of them back from that fucking Staircase."
