After some consideration Fog finally puts ink to paper. A black envelope contains a letter penned in small neat handwriting on simple paper, it says:
Dear Wilhelm,
I do not know if you remember me, but I visited your home recently to help with some family issues. I was the tall blue furry person with black clothes and black eyeliner. You showed us the crypt of your ancestors in a most helpful way, and you made a comment that seemed most interesting and I'm sad we didn't have more time to discuss. Hence I am writing this letter to you.
Since moving to the more populated civilisation of Kantas and the Dawnlands (more populated compared to my home at least), there have been many new concepts to comprehend for me. Money was certainly one of the first ones, my people trade food and skills rather than different metal discs. And while visiting your home the concept of ‘owning’ the land was another new one presented to me. In my mind the land cannot be owned by such souls like ours, the land is itself an entity of its own, and can you really own something like that? I wonder what your thoughts are on such a matter, or others similar perhaps.
I do hope the aftermath of awakening your ancestor Wolfgang didn’t throw the place into too much disarray, we were politely asked to leave soon after he assumed his position as head of the family, so I could not make much of an assessment at the time. What I did perceive was that it was a most unexpected outcome based on Johannes’ and Kyra’s reactions.
You seemed to have found your quiet place away from your sibling’s arguing, it would be a shame if that was disturbed permanently due to all this. So I hope that this is not the case.
I curiously await your response.
Yours Sincerely.
Fogwalker of the Walking Stone.
P.S. I must know the inspiration or source for your tailoring, the aesthetic is truly on point and has in turn inspired me to update my own outfits.
The responding letter comes in a beautiful envelope sealed with a raven seal. The paper itself is crisp and of exceptional quality, although a few water droplet stains mark the bottom of the page.
My dearest friend Fogwalker of the Walking Stone,
I remember you of course, and it pains me to write this letter being unable to freely converse in person with such an esteemed individual. Before he left for battle I discussed the future of the family with my siblings and Wolfgang, my father having retired to his rest next to my mother. The arguing has subsided somewhat, you and your companions’ suggestion that they simply talk to each other was rather accurate. Kyra has ascended to family head with Johannes renouncing his former position as heir to focus on his religious practice. It seems Johannes was graced with a true vision from Kelemvor showing him a new path. I will have to thank the old man next time I see him. To answer your discussion on money and ownership: I agree. Would it not be a more beautiful world if all could simply trade what they didn’t need or want for what they did, words, goods, time, all is valuable, certainly of more value that metal disks. And I agree, to own land is a foolish idea. For one, the land is far more ancient and should be respected as such. Generations go past on the same land, feeding from it, being nurtured by its rivers, graced by its plants and animals. Is it not madness that instead of being shown respect land is carved up and fought over. I weep tears of sadness at the rivers of blood that flow and pollute the pure spring water I used to play by in my youth. Ach, but the world is mad and full of those that would rather own and kill for more than those that see the truest beauty and relinquish all claim over that which is older than the rivers and trees. I must rest now, the spirits haunt me ever more and I tire of writing.
Yours in eternia,
Wilhelm von Vald
