Following on from: Ex Astris – The East Wall
For Riah who made me cry playing D&D.
Morning had come.
The fairy stood on the eastern wall of the fort.
Surrounding her the bodies of countless enemy dragons.
Twisted and broken.
Scarlet scales gleaming in the morning light.
Like fresh opened wounds.
Like the one inside her.
It was so peaceful as she approached
Birds sounding their arousal.
A soft breeze in the air.
Her body lay crumpled and ragged.
Shattered and smashed.
Lost scales speckled across earth.
In this dim aftermath
She walked closer to her form
The tall wings tattered and torn
Blood congealing from immeasurable wounds.
The wise face silent and still
Her light gone from her eyes
The fairy knelt by her form.
Hand stroking her stone cold surface
The warmth and love she felt for this being
Almost too much to bear
The love for a mother, who had never been there…
I met a dragon of moon One spring afternoon A moment of budding romance I told her my tale Of beyond the fey veil Of battles that left me alone
She then spoke soft to me She comforted me She said there was more to my tale Her eyes shone like the moon That sweet afternoon Such beauty I never have known
How could I foresee The pain inside me When her own tale would come to an end…
